Okazaki Ryujo Swimming Club Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Representative Director: Kumi Omori) will hold a “Kanchu Swimming Club” on Sunday, January 14, 2024 near the Tono Bridge of the Oto River, which flows by Higashi Okazaki Station. Swimming” will be held. On the day of the event, 60 people who applied in advance will enter the Oto River and swim. Bonfires, oil drum baths, and hot food will be served on the riverbed for participants and those who come to support. We are holding this event for the first time in seven years, hoping that the history of Okazaki City’s traditional winter swimming event will begin again.

Winter swimming in the Oto River has been going on for 74 years. The first winter swimming in the Oto River took place 74 years ago in 1949. The event was sponsored by the Okazaki Swimming Association, which was founded by elementary school teachers. Afterwards, it was discontinued due to water pollution caused by the high economic growth period, but it was revived due to improved water quality and has continued to be held ever since, with Kuniomi Omori, the founder of the Okazaki Ryujo Swimming Club, at the helm. However, seven years ago, it was suspended again due to district development around the Oto River. After 7 years, it will be revived in 2024.
