Background of this event
Currently, not only the elderly but also young people and children are becoming victims of smartphone-based SNS, online games, nuisance calls, SMS/URL fraud, etc. Under these circumstances, Whoscall has carried out various awareness campaigns in collaboration with central government agencies, Fukuoka City, Shibuya Ward, telecommunications companies, and private companies in order to prevent fraud damage. This time, we exchanged opinions on special fraud countermeasures with Yokohama citizens through the “Children’s Safety Festa 2023,” an event that parents and children can enjoy hosted by Yokohama City. Through a hands-on event using Whoscall, we appealed to Yokohama citizens to take measures against fraud.
About the Whoscall booth
We explained to the attendees the main features of the nuisance call/SMS fraud prevention app “Whoscall” that are effective against special fraud: “number identification function,” “SMS assistant,” “automatic call rejection,” “URL scanning,” and how to use the app. etc. were introduced. In addition, in a questionnaire survey, we asked about the usage status of smartphones and landline telephones regarding special fraud countermeasures, awareness about special fraud, and real voices supporting public-private partnership projects. Children who attended enjoyed U-turn bowling and received original stickers, postcards, and balloons as prizes for their participation. Furthermore, parents were given a chance to try out the main functions of the nuisance call/SMS fraud prevention app “Whoscall” and gain a first-hand experience of the effectiveness of the special fraud protection. The total amount of fraud damage in Japan in 2022 will exceed 37 billion yen (*), and the number of victims of fraudulent billing fraud and financial product fraud is on the rise, not only among the elderly but also among young people. Special fraud countermeasures are an urgent issue. Through this event, both parents and children were able to reaffirm the issue as an issue and received many meaningful opinions.
