Collaboration with Sinanen/Hirano Oil to spread the use of Euglena’s next-generation biodiesel fuel “Susteo”
Euglena Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Mitsuru Izumo, hereinafter referred to as “Euglena”) aims to expand the use of next-generation biodiesel fuel “Susteo” (hereinafter referred to as “Susteo”). We would like to inform you that we have started a collaboration in the Keihin area with Hirano Oil Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Hirano Oil”), which operates a fuel wholesale and transportation business.
■Background of the collaboration and overview of the three companies’ efforts Euglena’s Susteo is made from highly sustainable biomass raw materials that do not cause problems such as competition with food or
deforestation. “Susteo” emits CO2 in the same way as regular diesel oil during the fuel combustion stage, but because the plants and algae used as raw materials absorb CO2 through photosynthesis during the growth process, CO2 is emitted when the fuel is used. It is expected that this will contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality, where the amount of carbon dioxide is effectively zero plus or minus. Currently, Susteo is being supplied to vehicles such as buses, delivery vehicles, and fire trucks, ships such as tugboats and ferries, and aircraft such as commercial jets and twin-engine aircraft, expanding and diversifying across all areas of land, sea, and air. The total supply record exceeds 86 cases.
In transitioning its biofuel business from the demonstration stage to the commercial stage, Euglena is continuously and stably supplying biofuel procured from partner companies, etc., and is working to build a supply chain and develop biofuel supply destinations. . As part of this collaboration with Sinanen and Hirano Oil, we are working to accelerate the construction of supply chains and the development of supply destinations in the Keihin region.
Supplying fuel requires specialized technology, permits, registration, etc., and a storage base and sales partner with excellent knowledge is essential. Sinanen, with whom we are collaborating, operates 76 fuel supply facilities “Oil Square” and “Kerosene Center” across the country, while Hirano Oil has 20 bases in the Kanto and Kansai areas and 142 tank trucks, and has a strong fuel supply facility. We are building a delivery network.

By being able to use Sinanen’s oil terminal, stable delivery of “Susteo” will become possible in the Keihin area, and the service area is scheduled to expand as the amount handled by the company’s oil terminal increases in the future. In addition, Hirano Oil, whose strength is delivery using small lorries, will handle the delivery, making it possible to deliver fuel to sites where relatively small quantities are used.
By collaborating with both companies, we can now expect to be able to supply Susteo that is more tailored to customer requests in terms of delivery area and quantity than ever before. In the future, we aim to spread the service throughout the Kanto region and throughout the country.
