(Female: 260 people – 40.4%-, Male: 383 people – 59.6%-). Furthermore, the number of women joining the company in December exceeded that of men.
In the construction industry, where the advancement of women is one of the issues ahead of the 2024 problem, this number is much higher than the average for the construction industry, and IR has been working on the advancement of women into the construction industry for many years. ● Efforts to promote the active participation of women in order to solve the “2024 problem”
Until now, the implementation of cap regulations on overtime work has been suspended in the construction industry, but the regulations will go into effect from April 2024. For this reason, there is an urgent need to take measures to combat labor shortages and cost increases, and construction companies are facing the challenge of utilizing diverse human resources, including women and overseas personnel, in order to secure a workforce.
On the other hand, the construction industry has an image of being male-dominated, and the current situation is that women’s advancement in the industry is slower than in other industries. According to a survey conducted by the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (Nikkenren), the proportion of women among engineers will remain at 8.2% in fiscal 2022.
●Becoming a company of choice for women through efforts to make the construction industry a popular industry
In order to improve these issues and the image of the construction industry, IR has set the vision of “making the construction industry a popular industry” since its establishment in 2015, and has undertaken various initiatives to enable women to work in the same way as men. Ta.
In addition to promoting women to managerial positions, encouraging them to take maternity and childcare leave, in-house training, and a support system provided by two senior employees, in 2017, we announced a Whitening Declaration both inside and outside the company (*1 ), we promoted company-wide initiatives.
As an indicator of our efforts, we received the “White Company Certification” from the Japan Next Generation Enterprise Promotion Organization (commonly known as the White Foundation) from the following year in 2018. The company has received the highest ranking for six consecutive years in this certification, which covers 70 examination items, including efforts to promote the active
participation of women.
●The representative message and company culture communicated on SNS are the deciding factors for joining the company.
In addition to the above initiatives, we have also focused on disseminating information on SNS, mainly TikTok and Instagram, in order to dispel the male-dominated image of the construction industry (*2). Along with CEO Oyama, male and female employees in their 20s and 30s mainly perform, conveying the company’s free atmosphere. Many of our posts have been viewed over 400,000 times, and are increasingly being cited as one of the reasons people decided to apply for or join our company.
Through these efforts, the number of women joining the company has increased year by year, and in 2023, the proportion of women joining the company was 40.4% (260 women and 383 men). Furthermore, in terms of the number of employees joining the company in December, there were more women than men (26 women and 25 men).
With the “2024 problem” approaching, IR will work with female engineers to transform the construction industry into a popular industry. Please keep an eye on IR in 2024.
