Innovation in hair aging care! “Fermented Sakura Tree Extract” supports melanin production at the 14th Cosmetic Development and Development event A hair care ingredient that is attracting attention in Tokyo. First in the world to receive the INCI name for a cosmetic ingredient made from fermented wild cherry wood (according to in-house research).
……
Nippon Zettock Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Masataka Moriyama, hereinafter referred to as “Nippon Zettock”) utilizes innovative technology rooted in the Tohoku climate to produce a new raw material called “cherry blossoms” using wild cherry blossoms grown in Iwate Prefecture. We have developed a fermented tree extract. This project was realized in cooperation with Fermen Station Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Representative Director: Rina Sakai, hereinafter referred to as Fermen Station), which has a manufacturing base in Iwate Prefecture. I got it. Subsequent research revealed that cherry tree fermented extract has the effect of promoting tyrosinase activity and melanin production. This groundbreaking research result will be unveiled for the first time at the 14th Cosmetics Development and Development (COSME Tech 2024 TOKYO).
Research Results – Anti-aging materials for hair care –
Melanin is mainly distributed in the skin, hair, and eyes, and hair color is determined by the quality and quantity of melanin pigment. Since one of the causes of gray hair is a decline in the function of the melanin production system, melanin production is expected to be a countermeasure against gray hair. Through previous research, Nippon ZETOC has revealed that cherry tree fermented extract has
anti-glycation effects, but we have now discovered that it promotes tyrosinase activity and melanin production. The results of this research may contribute to the improvement of gray hair.
Nippon Zetoc has been developing and researching fermented cherry tree extracts, focusing on the wood powder produced after processing the wild cherry trees of Iwaizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture, and in particular on the wood powder produced after processing the wood of wild cherry trees, as well as our unique fermentation and distillation techniques. Fermented cherry tree extract is naturally derived and environmentally friendly, and is expected to be used as an aging care ingredient for hair. We plan to report these research results at an exhibition.

Fermented cherry tree extract – Utilizing the blessings of the forest – Iwaizumi Town in Iwate Prefecture, which boasts the largest area in Honshu, is truly a “town of forests and water,” with forests accounting for 90% of the town’s total area. Forestry, the town’s core industry, is carried out while working to balance the use and conservation of the local resource, natural hardwood forest. For the wild cherry blossoms used as raw materials, we made effective use of food smoking chips that do not meet shipping standards. By using the entire wood of wild cherry trees that have endured the wind and snow, we have condensed the tree’s natural functional components and unique essence. “Sakura tree extract” is a sustainable and highly functional beauty ingredient born from the fusion of nature and technology. Through the Tohoku Support Project, Nippon ZETOC actively contributes to the effective use of local resources and the creation of new value. As part of this, Sakuragi Fermented Extract values cooperation with the local community and is taking a step towards a sustainable future.

Unique fermentation technology developed by joint development partners -Fermen Station Co., Ltd.-
We conducted joint development with Ferment Station, which has its own factory (Oshu Lab) in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, and develops and manufactures organic ethanol and sustainable cosmetic ingredients as a joint development partner. Trees with low sugar content and hard structures cannot be easily fermented. By introducing carefully selected yeast from Fermen Station’s unique fermentation microorganism library, we succeeded in alcoholic fermentation of wild cherry wood without adding any carbohydrates other than wood. In order to use it as a cosmetic raw material, the extract is extracted after removing the alcohol through distillation. Furthermore, we aim to return the extracted residue to the fields by mixing it with compost.
