*~Use your face or fingerprint to authenticate your experience more smoothly~* Mercari, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “Mercari”) is pleased to announce that it has introduced “Passkey,” a passwordless biometric authentication function when logging into “Mercari.” This feature was introduced (*1) from the Bitcoin trading service and has been gradually expanded, but from January 29, 2024, it will be applied to all logins on the app.

Mercari has provided multiple identity authentication services to create a safe and secure marketplace, such as phone number
authentication (*2) and 3D Secure 2.0 (*3) authentication. In response to feedback from customers that “re-registration failed” when migrating devices and “it’s cumbersome when changing models,” we introduced a “passkey” in April 2023. .

Since its introduction, we have expanded the functions that allow you to use passkeys to change personal information and settings, charge sales proceeds, etc., and now you can now use passkeys to log in to the Mercari app. Compared to phone number authentication, this method has the advantage of not having to wait for an SMS to arrive and is less likely to fail because there is no need to input information, allowing you to use Mercari more smoothly.
Please note that Mercari does not store biometric information such as the customer’s fingerprints and face required for authentication, so you can use it with confidence.

Mercari will continue to strive for development using the latest technology in order to provide a highly secure marketplace for our customers.
