* 2. Overview and results of past initiatives *
In 2023, we will extend the mid-drying period for the high-yielding, good-tasting rice “Niji no Kirameki” at the farms of five partner producers in Fukui and Shiga prefectures, creating J-credits and improving quality. We conducted a survey.
Regarding the sale of J-Credit, we are considering direct sales to companies engaged in carbon offset activities and sales on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society by revitalizing the carbon credit market. .
– CO2 reduction: 44t-CO2 (equivalent to the amount of CO2 absorbed by approximately 5,000 cedar trees in one year)

For those of us who deal with nature, consideration for the
environment is important when considering the sustainability of agriculture in the future, and we wanted to actively incorporate farming methods that contribute to reducing environmental impact, such as extending mid-drying. .
While there are various issues facing agriculture these days, I feel very encouraged to be able to work with Yanmar Marche on this project. We look forward to working with you as a partner to support the food and environment of tomorrow in Japan.

Extended mid-drying is expected to be effective as a mechanism to reduce the methane gas emitted during rice cultivation and reduce the impact on the environment.
I think that in the future, farmers can be considered as an example of a sustainable business model by being able to obtain J-Credits by engaging in environmentally friendly activities.
* 3.Future developments*
Rice grown and harvested using the “methodology for extending the mid-drying period in wet rice cultivation” is scheduled to start being sold at d Shopping, operated by NTT Docomo, Inc., in April 2024. Additionally, in March 2024, we are planning to sell bento boxes using this rice for a limited time in collaboration with StoryCrew Co., Ltd., which provides food services for offices mainly in Tokyo. We will include a questionnaire with the bento boxes we sell and conduct a fact-finding survey regarding ethical consumption.
In the future, in addition to Fukui and Shiga prefectures, we will roll out the farming method using the “mid-drying period extension methodology for rice cultivation” to partner producers across the country, including Aomori, Niigata, and Shimane prefectures, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I will work on it.

*1: “Methodology for extending the mid-drying period in wet rice cultivation” is to extend the period of “mid-drying”, which drains the water from the paddy field and dries the field during the rice cultivation period, by more than 7 days than before, thereby reducing methane gas from the soil. This is a methodology to reduce emissions. *2: NTT Com’s “Methane gas reduction project by extending the drying period of rice fields” has been certified.
