“Atokara” is a BNPL developed by the three companies based on a basic agreement regarding a business alliance in Buy Now Pay Later*1 (hereinafter “BNPL”) concluded by the three companies on Monday, May 23, 2022. It’s a service.

“Atokara” is a BNPL service that allows buyers to pay for the product at a convenience store, bank, etc. after purchasing and receiving the product. When making purchases through apps or e-commerce, you can make payments using only your mobile phone number and email address, without having to enter your credit card information. In addition, the main features of Atkara are that it is “completely web-based from usage to billing” and that it uses “cash payment,” and that it can also be used for face-to-face transactions.
Until now, deferred payment payment services have mainly been used for e-commerce, and the mainstream payment method was for customers to pay deferred each time based on the paper invoice that was shipped with the product.
At Atokara, customers can use the QR code*2 displayed on the Atokara app at physical stores, and when using e-commerce, they can also use the paper that comes with the products they are shopping for. You can manage your monthly usage status using the Atkara app or dedicated website, without having to manage your bills each time. Additionally, you can pay in full rather than just one bill at a time, allowing for speedy payments.
-About payment methods-
“Atokara” offers the following two payment methods.
(1) Pay-as-you-go credit type
There is no need to register as a member in advance, and each purchase is reviewed based on the details of the purchased product.This payment method requires a one-time payment, and can only be used in
e-commerce.
(2) Membership registration type
This is a payment method that requires you to register as a member in advance*3 and set a usage limit based on that information.
The pay-as-you-go type allows you to pay once, but the membership registration type is more flexible as it supports payments from 1 to 36 times and is free of charge for up to 6 installments*4. Payment is also possible. In addition to use for e-commerce, face-to-face transactions are also possible at member stores equipped with Sumitomo Mitsui Card’s all-in-one payment terminal “stera terminal” and all-in-one mobile terminal “stera mobile”*5.
As the pay-as-you-go model does not require prior membership registration, it provides customers with a smooth shopping experience. The membership registration type also supports installment payments and face-to-face transactions, allowing for use in a wider range of shopping situations and providing convenient and flexible payments. *2: “QR code” is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Co., Ltd. and is a JIS and ISO standard.
