ABB IE5
We have achieved another world first by announcing a new version of our SynRM (Synchronous Reluctance Motor) series that combines the benefits of ultra-high performance energy efficiency and high cooling efficiency. This new design sets a new benchmark for high power and high reliability in a compact footprint.

The customer is using IE5
Use SynRM water-cooled motors to reduce energy costs and emissions in new projects, or to replace less efficient motors. Ideal for a wide range of industries including marine propulsion, rubber and plastic manufacturing, and food and beverages.

IE5
The big advantage of SynRM water-cooled motors is that they are much more efficient than conventional water-cooled induction motors currently in use, and have great potential for upgrade with
energy-saving technologies. Energy efficiency is critical to optimizing a motor’s life cycle cost (TCO). This is because the purchase cost accounts for 2% of the total life cycle cost of a motor, while the energy cost to operate it over its life accounts for approximately 97%. IE5 motors have 40% lower energy losses than the commonly used IE3 motors. Therefore, the payback period when choosing an IE5 motor over an IE3 motor is often less than one year.

Reliability is enhanced by highly effective cooling, which combines SynRM’s cool rotor with cooling ribs on the bearing assembly, reducing bearing operating temperatures. This extends the life of this key component and reduces the need for maintenance.

The motor is rugged and has a sealed seal to protect against moisture, dirt, and dust, and a smooth exterior that prevents dust from adhering. This makes them ideal for harsh applications where space is limited and high power densities are required, such as marine propulsion systems and thrusters. Additionally, this motor does not require fans or ventilation, so it does not disturb the surrounding air or emit heat outside. This is a major advantage in processes that are affected by airflow, such as rubber and plastic production, and food and beverage applications such as chocolate conche machines. Fanless motors also improve the working environment by reducing noise levels.

Floeck says: “ABB is a pioneer in both SynRM technology and water cooling for induction motors.IE5
SynRM water-cooled motors now combine the two, allowing a wider range of applications to benefit from ultra-high efficiency. This is IE5 SynRM
This is a new world-first product for this series, following the launch of the increased safety explosion-proof motor.”
ABB IE5 SynRM water-cooled motors optimize life cycle cost (TCO) through lower energy consumption and lower operating and maintenance costs.
Water-cooled IE5
SynRM’s high output power increases design flexibility. You can upgrade your machine to get higher output in the same footprint, or you can get the same output but in a more compact footprint.

IE5 SynRM water-cooled motors are significantly lighter than competing designs, making them easier to handle and install. 240 kW IE5 with frame size 315
The SynRM motor weighs 870 kg, which is almost half the weight of its IE3 induction motor counterpart.

IE5 SynRM water cooled motor has frame size IEC 200-315
Available in aluminum frame, cast iron available upon request. Versatile design allows this motor to deliver 37 to 710 kW at 400 V It provides outstanding performance in the power range.
