Yatsushiro ginger dishes, souvenirs, and sweets development unveiling event This initiative utilizes the FY2020 Regional Integrated Gastronomy Tourism Promotion Project, with the theme of “Yashiro Ginger,” a gastronomic experience that can only be enjoyed in the region and is tied to the story of the region’s history, culture, and nature. Product development of ginger dishes, ginger souvenirs, and ginger sweets using
40 companies took part.

The highlight of this event was the gathering of 20 restaurants that serve “Ginger-grilled Pork,” the first in the country to develop a business with the aim of becoming the “Mecca of Ginger-grilled Pork.”

Yatsushiro ginger can be shipped year-round through thorough storage management, making it an ingredient that can be eaten without any intervening seasons. Yatsushiro ginger, which has been produced since the Taisho era, accounts for approximately 40% of the 5,000 tons produced in Kumamoto Prefecture, and Toyo Town is one of the prefecture’s leading production areas, and the main shipping destinations are Kanto, Chukyo, Kansai, and urban areas. It is very popular and is traded at a high price.
Ginger has great beauty effects such as sweating, and in recent years has been highly praised by women who suffer from sensitivity to cold.

In addition, we have recently published a booklet called “Yashiro Ginger Recommendations” that introduces the charms of Yatsushiro ginger.
This booklet was created to fully convey the charm of Yatsushiro ginger, including the history of Yatsushiro ginger, the thoughts of its producers, an introduction to Toyo Town, and introductions to restaurants that serve ginger dishes.
