The Department of Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Musashino University (Ariake, Koto Ward) will hold an “Application Ceremony” on Wednesday, February 14th. On the day of the event, approximately 250 students who are studying to pursue a career in nursing will renew their commitment to nursing. This time, the 14th time, will be held at Tsukiji Honganji, the birthplace*, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the corporation in 2024. In addition, although the application ceremony was originally held for students who are preparing for their practical training, this time it will be held for both second-year students who are not preparing for their practical training, as well as third-year students who were unable to hold the ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic.
*Musashino University Educational Corporation established “Musashino Women’s Academy” in 1924 as a temporary school building in the JRCS temporary hospital building that had been set up on the grounds of Tsukiji Honganji Temple in the wake of the Great Kanto Earthquake.

In 2008, prior to the first application ceremony, students were invited to submit designs, and a design proposal by a student from the Department of Human Relations (currently the Department of Human Sciences) was selected and created. This design is based on the image of “flowers” and “wings.” The “flowers” represent the wish to bloom into a new self, and the “wings” represent the wish to flap toward the future.
It embodies the mindset of a nursing professional and the expectations and encouragement for students who are aiming for nursing in the future.

In 1929, the school moved to Hoya Village (currently Musashino Campus). In 1947, it became Musashino Joshi Gakuin Junior High School, and in 1948 it became Musashino Joshi Gakuin High School, followed by a women’s junior college in 1950 and a women’s university in 1965. Over time, the name was changed from “Musashino Women’s University” to “Musashino University” in 2003. The following year, in 2004, the university became coeducational, and in 2012, the Ariake Campus (Koto Ward, Tokyo) was opened. Currently, we have campuses in Koto Ward, Chiyoda Ward, and Nishitokyo City, Tokyo, and are a comprehensive school with over 15,000 students attending graduate school, university, high school, junior high school, kindergarten, etc.
We are currently working on various projects to commemorate our 100th anniversary in 2024. Our 100th anniversary message, “Together, for the future,” embodies our determination to move toward a future in which diverse people resonate with their different strengths to give shape to the happiness of the world.

In 1924, she established Musashino Women’s Academy with the ideal of character education based on the Buddhist spirit. Formerly Musashino Women’s University, the name was changed to Musashino University in 2003. Since becoming coeducational in 2004, we have promoted university reform and developed into a comprehensive university with over 13,000 students, including 12 faculties, 20 departments, 13 graduate schools, and a correspondence course. In 2019, we established the Department of Data Science, the first private university in Japan. In 2021, we will open Japan’s first Faculty of Entrepreneurship and launch Musashino INITIAL, a university-wide common basic course with compulsory subjects such as “AI Utilization” and “SDGs.” We plan to open Japan’s first sustainability department in 2023.
Established. In 2024, we will open the world’s first faculty of well-being. The university is reforming the university in order to cultivate creative human resources for the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2024 and beyond in 2050.
