STREET DREAMS STUDIOS TOKYO will be holding COTOH’s SOLO
EXHIBITION “CHARACTER I” will be held from Saturday, February 17th. Mr. COTOH has been working as an illustrator since 2017, and has recently turned into a contemporary artist after collaborating with many musicians and apparel companies. He is an artist who creates contemporary art works with his unique interpretation of mass-consumed illustrations and their printing techniques, with an awareness that there is no boundary between illustrations (especially digital works) and contemporary art works.
This time “CHARACTER
I”, in a world where communities are rapidly dispersing due to major changes in the media and it is becoming difficult to understand what they have in common, we chose a character (mascot) as one of the commonalities and created a wedge. By depicting things that are universal, things that are unique, and real people in a variety of styles, and adding words and pictures that originated underground, sentences extracted by AI, and coined words, we explain their identity and style. Masu.
In this exhibition, we will be presenting over 30 new hand-painted works. Please feel free to invite everyone to come and see us.

*【COTOH】*
Active as an illustrator since 2017. After collaborating with many musicians and apparel companies, he recently became a contemporary artist.
Although he is aware that there is no boundary between illustrations (particularly digital works) and contemporary art, he has succeeded in creating contemporary art through his unique interpretation of the mass-consumed illustrations and their printing techniques. Silkscreen, giclee (digital print), ukiyo-e woodblock print. All of the hand paintings and various works are unique (excluding ukiyo-e prints). By intentionally limiting his works to unique works using techniques premised on mass consumption, he is trying to create a change in the Japanese context, where in the past, evaluations were based on commercial products. There is no particular style, such as patterns or output methods, and there is always a constant update. A contemporary artist who continues to challenge herself with an approach that sets her apart from the artists who draw urban female characters these days.
