FamilyMart Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kensuke Hosomi) has announced the launch of a new product from the FamilyMart Chinese steamed bun series, the Taiwan “Castella” 130 yen (140 yen including tax) will be on sale from Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at approximately 16,000 FamilyMart stores nationwide, excluding Okinawa Prefecture (*).
*Pre-sale will be held at 907 stores in Kanagawa Prefecture in March 2023

Taiwanese castella is a sweet that was born in the town of Danshui in northern Taiwan. Compared to Japanese castella, it is thicker and has a fluffier texture, and in recent years it has become popular in Japan, with specialty stores opening up. The newly released “Taiwanese Castella” uses meringue with plenty of air and whole eggs in the dough to recreate its characteristic texture in Chinese steamed buns, resulting in a fluffy and chewy texture. It expresses the feeling. In addition, we have adopted a method called “yusen-yaki,” which involves pouring hot water onto the top of the oven and steaming the mold with the batter in it, and then steaming it using the store’s steamer to achieve a moist finish. Because it has such a simple taste, we were particular about the amount of egg added to bring out the maximum flavor of the egg, and created a gentle sweetness that would fill your mouth.
