Columbia Sportswear’s Omni-Heat Infinity supports America’s historic return to the moon
Colombian technology protects Intuitive Machines’ lunar lander Nova-C from the harsh temperature differences in space
Eastern Standard Time (EST) February 14, 2024 Columbia Sportswear (headquartered in Portland, Oregon, USA), a world leader in the outdoor field with innovative technology, will open its headquarters in Houston, USA. An unprecedented partnership with aerospace company Intuitive Machines will bring insulation technology used in outdoor apparel to the Lunar Module.
Omni-Heat Infinity, a heat-reflective thermal insulation function developed by Columbia Sportswear and patented by Columbia Sportswear, will be used for the upcoming launch of the lander “Nova-C” on a private lunar landing mission. With this, we head to space.
In experimental simulations prior to launch, Intuitive Machines researchers found that Columbia’s innovative Omni-Heat Infinity gold reflective print material fluctuated between -120°C and 120°C. They concluded that it is effective in insulating the lunar module from the harsh temperatures of space.
Building on a multi-year scientific partnership first announced in 2021 and a shared commitment to innovation and exploration, Columbia is a scientific partner to bring Omni-Heat Infinity technology to new frontiers. I am proud to put it to the ultimate test.
Intuitive Machines-1 (IM-1) is part of the Commercial Lunar Surface Transportation Services (CLPS) initiative, an important part of NASA’s Artemis moon exploration program, and is one of three planned lunar landings by Intuitive Machines. This is the first plan. The scientific and technological payloads sent to the lunar surface as part of CLPS will lay the foundation for sustained human presence on the lunar surface and commercial exploitation of the moon.
Intuitive Machines, selected by NASA to deliver a payload for scientific research to the moon’s surface with its Nova-C lander, will mark America’s first return to the moon in 50 years. I hope you will leave it. The launch of the “Intuitive Machines-1 (IM-1)” lunar module mission is scheduled to take place during a launch period of several days after February 14, 2024 (EST) (time to be determined). will be streamed live on NASA TV or For more information, please visit
