Eastern Standard Time (EST) February 14, 2024 Columbia Sportswear (headquartered in Portland, Oregon, USA), a world leader in the outdoor field with innovative technology, will open its headquarters in Houston, USA. An unprecedented partnership with aerospace company Intuitive Machines will bring insulation technology used in outdoor apparel to the Lunar Module.
Omni-Heat Infinity, a heat-reflective thermal insulation function developed by Columbia Sportswear and patented by Columbia Sportswear, will be used for the upcoming launch of the lander “Nova-C” on a private lunar landing mission. With this, we head to space.
In experimental simulations prior to launch, Intuitive Machines researchers found that Columbia’s innovative Omni-Heat Infinity gold reflective print material fluctuated between -120°C and 120°C. They concluded that it is effective in insulating the lunar module from the harsh temperatures of space.
