[Shiofusha General Incorporated Association] [Remote Island] Start of crowdfunding for a group home for people with disabilities that is needed in the community in Kumejima Town, Okinawa Prefecture

Press release: February 24, 2024
**
[Remote Island] Crowdfunding begins in Kumejima Town, Okinawa Prefecture for a group home for people with disabilities that is needed in the community
*This is a crowdfunding project to open a girls’ dormitory that didn’t exist in the area. As a return gift, you can choose local specialties such as mango, seafood, awamori, and Okinawa soba! *
Crowdfunding has begun to open a group home for people with
disabilities! Return gifts include mango, awamori, and seafood! There is a shortage of group homes for people with disabilities in Kumejima Town, a remote island in Okinawa Prefecture.
▼ In Kumejima Town, a remote island and depopulated area in Okinawa Prefecture, people with disabilities live with support due to a lack of human and social resources* “Group Home for People with
Disabilities”
” is missing*
Old age, living alone, and disability, when these attributes combine, *anything happens*. *Welfare support is needed* before that happens*

However, *because it is a remote island and a depopulated area, it is extremely difficult to establish and maintain welfare facilities for people with disabilities*
▼ We are currently crowdfunding with ReadyFor to open a new group home for people with disabilities ▼
https://readyfor.jp/projects/134262
We would be grateful if we could receive your support.
▼ Introduction and current situation of Kumejima, a remote island in Okinawa An island with a population of 7,000, located away from the main island of Okinawa, where rich nature and culture remain.
Kumejima, a remote island in Okinawa, is located approximately 100 km west of the main island of Okinawa and has a population of 7,000 people.*

It is a land with reasonable access from Naha, just 30 minutes by plane and 3 hours by ferry, and has a relaxing atmosphere unique to a remote island, but unlike Miyako Island or Ishigaki Island, it does not have a strong resort feel.*
It is a region of Okinawa rich in nature where the breath of the Ryukyus remains*
Depopulation and difficult environment
Although Kumejima has such a rich environment, it is suffering from “population decline and depopulation” due to its location as a remote island and its proximity to Naha.*
. In particular, the working-age population is declining rapidly, and social resources are lacking in many ways.

One of the biggest deficiencies in the above situation is “*lack of welfare facilities for people with disabilities*”
▼ Local situation and difficulties regarding welfare facilities for people with disabilities
This is a common trend in rural areas of Japan, but even here on Kumejima, disabled people are often looked after by relatives, and there are many cases where disabled people continue to live with their parents even after they become adults.

*However, what happens when those parents become elderly and can no longer look after them, or pass away?*

* Also, if your parents are of the working generation, is it possible to balance caring for your elderly parents, watching over your adult child, and your own professional life? *

There is a “disability category” that is a measure of the difficulty people with disabilities have in their daily lives.

If a person with a high disability classification moves into a facility, it is easier for the company to increase profits, so people with a high disability classification can relatively go to group homes on the mainland or on the mainland.

However, on the other hand,* those with a low disability
classification, or those with a high disability classification who are difficult to deal with, are in a situation where it is difficult to receive support on the island*.
The difficulty and necessity of opening and continuing a group home for people with disabilities on Kumejima
Because of this situation, the need for group homes for people with disabilities has always been called out.
– Low profitability* due to the low disability classification of users on the island and the geographical condition of being a remote island*
– Due to the lack of properties on the island (new seismic standards require 4 or more rooms), there are *few buildings that can be used as facilities*
– Discrepancy from the original needs of a group home for people with disabilities, which is said to be a facility to support the independence of the working generation*
– Lack of professionals in the field of disability welfare* Mainly for the reasons mentioned above, the hurdles for opening a new facility are extremely high, and new facilities have not been opened for a long time.
▼ Crowdfunding request
* Under these circumstances, a new group home for people with disabilities will be established based on support from various people *
The property that will become a facility requires major repairs. * ● Honestly, there is a high possibility of a deficit ●*
Unfortunately, although it is a welfare facility, since we are starting a business with the facility, we were not able to take advantage of subsidies, etc.* (I apologize for my inexperience)

However, with the cooperation of various people in the area, it looks like we will be able to open safely on April 1, 2024.*

However,* renovation costs are significantly higher than in urban areas, and profitability is low, so there is a possibility that funds will run out early*

* We would appreciate your cooperation in order to establish and continue a group home for people with disabilities, which is a necessary welfare infrastructure in the region *
* ▼ * * ReadyFor crowdfunding *

▼ Use of funds received through crowdfunding
The valuable donations we receive from you will be used as follows: We hope that the success of crowdfunding will allow us to open a “women’s dormitory”
* [Project completed] 1 million yen *
– Used to strengthen the operational infrastructure of newly opened facilities*
* [Next Goal] 2 million yen (actual donation amount) ~ *
– Used to improve facility convenience and strengthen operational base, such as removing block walls of existing facilities*
* [Super Goal] 3 million yen (actual donation amount) ~ *
– We will work towards opening a female dormitory, which we were unable to create even with this new opening.
▼ Necessity of female dormitory
Due to the nature of group homes for people with disabilities, which are communal living (similar to a shared house), it is desirable for only men or women to live there.*
This time, only the male dormitory is open*

However, there are naturally many women with disabilities in the area*. For these people, we hope to open a female dormitory as soon as possible.*

*Increasing capacity will also stabilize facility management and enable us to provide better services for a longer period of time.* ▼ Notice regarding donations and return gifts
There are a variety of island specialties as return gifts, so please donate according to your preference (some items do not come with return gifts).
The returns for this crowdfunding include not only donations but also donations from everyone*
This also includes “return gifts made from Kumejima special products”*.

Therefore, if you make a donation in the form of a return gift, READYFOR’s handling fee will be deducted, as well as the amount paid to the island’s supporters who will prepare the return gift.* The remaining amount will be used to fund the operation of a group home for people with disabilities*

So, please feel free to contact us if you are mainly a corporation and need it.

We, Shiofusha General Incorporated Association, are a non-profit general incorporated association with articles of incorporation that are strictly non-profit, and are represented by a certified social worker.*
is. We are active in the hope that everyone involved can lead a more satisfying life (we are currently offering free Japanese language classes to foreigners working in the area).
Although it is a non-profit corporation, it is still a welfare facility, * I also believe that if we cannot pay staff salaries satisfactorily, there will be no sustainability, and we will not be able to provide welfare in the true sense of the word.*
*
We would appreciate your support in order to provide long-term welfare infrastructure on Okinawa’s remote islands and depopulated areas by stabilizing the lives of both island users and island staff.*

Thank you very much for your support.
