Many companies, organizations, and artists from Japan will be participating in SXSW this year as well. We will introduce Japanese people who are taking on the challenge of SXSW in various ways, such as exhibiting at exhibitions, speaking at conference sessions, participating in awards, holding original events, appearing at music festivals, and screening films.

SXSW2024 (South by Southwest 2024), one of the world’s largest creative conference events, will be held from March 8th to 16th (local time in Austin, Texas, USA). SXSW EDU 2024, which focuses on the education field, will also be held from March 4th to 7th.
SXSW offers a variety of events, including conference sessions featuring researchers and famous speakers from various industries, exhibitions with booths from large companies to startups, live music gatherings of artists from all over the world, and premiere screenings at film festivals. This is a large-scale complex event where multiple contents are held simultaneously.
Many people from Japan will travel to Austin this year to participate in SXSW2024 in various ways. The Japan Office would like to introduce everyone who will be participating as exhibitors and performers from Japan.

SXSW’s largest exhibition, “Creative Industries Expo,” will be held for four days from March 10th to March 13th. Every year, many companies from Japan exhibit at the exhibition, and this year 15 companies have decided to exhibit booths. Please see the links for each exhibit and details.

“Todai To Texas,” a project from the University of Tokyo, holds a networking event for students and U30s.
“Todai To Texas,” a project from the University of Tokyo that will be exhibiting at an exhibition for the first time in a while this year, will not only have a booth, but will also hold a networking event for students and under-30s on March 13, the last day of the exhibition. This event is a meetup and hackathon event that aims to connect young innovative talents from around the world who gather at SXSW and create new collaborations.

Many sessions with Japanese speakers will be held, including the Featured Session on the new Gundam series.

“Project Humanity” selected as a finalist in the SXSW Innovation Awards At the Innovation Awards, which recognize particularly outstanding projects from among the projects submitted in 11 categories, Japan’s Project Humanity was selected as a finalist. During the exhibition period, the finalist-only exhibition “Finalist Showcase” will be held, after which the top prize in each category will be announced at the Innovation Awards Ceremony to be held on March 11th.
