Synspective Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President and CEO: Motoyuki Arai, hereinafter referred to as “Synspective”) and Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President and CEO: Shuichi Yoshimura, hereinafter “Dynamic “Map Platform”) has been adopted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR).
The project selected this time was proposed by a consortium with Synspective, whose representative startup is Dynamic Map Platform, under the public theme of “Technology development that contributes to the advancement of road management monitoring and observation using next-generation equipment, etc.” “Improving the efficiency of road management by increasing the accuracy of small SAR data location information using HD maps” was selected as a project eligible for subsidy with a maximum grant amount of 350 million yen.

Small SAR satellite image
The project selected this time will involve solutions used for observation and ground deformation monitoring that are unaffected by weather and day and night using small SAR satellites*, as well as HD maps (High definition maps) for autonomous driving, which are high positional precision 3D data. Based on this collaboration, we will consider its application to road infrastructure management. In development, we will use HD maps to achieve high positional accuracy of SAR data and develop datasets that will contribute to road infrastructure monitoring and maintenance. In addition, we have built a data linkage system and viewer for road maintenance management based on SAR data with high positional accuracy, making it possible to visualize disaster situations and provide data through API linkage with other systems, thereby improving road infrastructure management. We aim for further advancement.

It emits microwaves, a type of radio wave, towards the earth, receives the reflected waves, and observes the physical properties and shape of the earth’s surface. Satellites equipped with this technology are called “SAR satellites.” A feature of SAR satellites is that they emit radio waves with a wavelength that can penetrate clouds and observe the reflected waves from the ground, so they can obtain data at any time, regardless of weather or time of day.
