https://www.miraii.org/) is treating familial Mediterranean fever, an incurable disease that affects less than 500 people in Japan. Under the direction of a director who is suffering from the disease, we provide a program for children with specific chronic pediatric diseases, where they can communicate with “someone” other than their families in a safe manner, develop their social skills, and make friends, not at home, at school, or at the hospital. We have opened a place where you can create, study, play, and challenge yourself in Kuromoncho, Higashi Ward, Nagoya City!

As the chairman of the board, I have lived with the symptoms of familial Mediterranean fever, such as high fever, peritonitis, ileus, meningitis, and fatigue, since childhood. However, because the disease was not given a name, it was not an environment in which to gain understanding from those around you or from medical professionals. All symptoms are dismissed as “psychological” or “mental,” and one wonders, “How is it that everyone in this world can live their lives with such a calm face while exhibiting such fatigue and symptoms?” I spent my childhood wondering, “Why can’t I work so hard?”
And I have thought many times that I want to reset this world. There have been many times when I have taken that action. Scars that won’t go away…
Still, I happened to have “swimming”.
Even now, as an adult and diagnosed with the disease, thanks to swimming, I am able to stabilize my symptoms while undergoing treatment.
At the Masters Asian Swimming Tournament, I was also able to place 5th in the 100m butterfly.
Now, while serving as the president of miraii, I also teach swimming to healthy children and children with disabilities.

Children with illnesses and disabilities have many possibilities, just like healthy children.
If the environment is right, many hidden possibilities will bloom. I have experienced and seen many of them.
You may be wondering what a difference just one pair of socks can make. However, I believe that just one pair of socks can save a child’s life, lead to a desire to “walk,” and make a big, positive change in a child’s life.
