Press conference information
FingerVision Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Yuki Nono) aims to expand the scope of application of robots and machines and solve various social issues through the practical application of
visual-tactile technology developed by Carnegie Mellon University and Tohoku University in the United States. FingerVision) was selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Innovative Robot Research and Development Infrastructure Construction Project” and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ “Production Process Advancement Entrustment Project” in 2023. Together with Koichiro Hirai (hereinafter referred to as the Japan Deli Association) and others, we have developed and introduced on-site robot systems that automate the food plating process as one of the vendor companies with top technology.

In fiscal 2023, the Japan Deli Foods Association will develop and introduce the world’s first* robot system into a production site in a short period of six months, targeting the deli food plating process, which requires the most labor. We have been working on a variety of industry-first* themes in order to create a RoboFre environment that lowers the barriers to introduction. Among these, FingerVision has developed and implemented on-site for multiple delicatessen food manufacturing companies and factories a “lunch box serving robot system that uses tactile hands and can handle a wide variety of products” that can accurately grasp irregularly shaped and fragile ingredients without destroying them. Ta. In addition, from the perspective of creating a Robofre environment, we have also been working on the “formulation of hygiene management guidelines for introducing robots in food factories.”
(*Note) According to the Japan Delicious Dish Association

For these initiatives in 2023, under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Robotics Industry
Association, we will collaborate with the Japan Deli Association, cutting-edge technology companies, deli manufacturing companies, and the food industry who were involved in the actual research and development. We would like to inform you that a press conference (for members of the press) will be held where the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which promotes the introduction of technology from its standpoint of having jurisdiction, will gather.
On the day of the event, you will be able to watch a live video of the robot system in operation on-site, which will be broadcast live to the prepared food manufacturing factory, so please be sure to check it out.

◆Technology overview
Our core technology is the concept of “reproducing tactile sensations based on images (cameras).” By installing it on the fingertips of a robot hand, etc., it becomes possible to perceive tactile sensations (distribution of force and slippage, etc.), and the robot can be controlled as if a human were handling an object using the sensation of the palm of the hand. . It is characterized by its high
functionality (high resolution and multimodality), as well as its excellent economic efficiency and practicality. Although it is called a “tactile” sensor, it is a completely new concept “visual-tactile sensor” that also has a (visual) modality to see the object to be grasped, and it has infinite application possibilities, not only for process automation when combined with robots. has.
