[About search fund]
Search funds are searchers (entrepreneurs) with an entrepreneurial spirit who seek investment from investors, search for promising small and medium-sized enterprises, and succeed the business through M&A to achieve business continuity and growth. It is a form of
entrepreneurship.
There are two main types of search funds. One is “1. Traditional Search Fund,” in which searchers themselves raise funds from multiple investors (usually 10 to 20 people) and conduct acquisitions and actual management. The other type is “2. Accelerator-type search fund,” in which a searcher conducts acquisitions and actual management under the full backing of a single investor (accelerator).

Currently, in Japan, “2. Accelerator type” is the mainstream, and in 2023, nine investments will be made using the accelerator type. On the other hand, overseas (United States, Europe, Central and South America), “1. Traditional type” is the main type of search funds, and so far more than 700 searchers have been born around the world, and in Japan, as of February 2017, there were 4 traditional type search funds. A type search fund has been established. (One of them was an investment)
This forum focuses on 1. Traditional type in Japan.
2.This is the first event that aims to comprehensively deepen understanding of both accelerator types from the following
perspectives.
As a solution to social issues:
As one solution to the business succession problem of small and medium-sized enterprises, the shortage of young management personnel, and the decline of local economies.
As a new investment asset:
As a new middle risk/middle return asset type
Career options include:
ETA (Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition) – A new option for starting a business through acquisition
