Fujitsu Limited
Fujitsu and JR Freight jointly develop a “vehicle management system” that supports maintenance operations for railway vehicles
……
Fujitsu Limited (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Takahito Tokita, hereinafter referred to as Fujitsu) and Japan Freight Railway Company (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Arata Inukai, hereinafter referred to as JR Freight), We will collaborate with the aim of realizing a sustainable railway
transportation society and will jointly develop a “vehicle management system” that supports railway vehicle maintenance operations for railway operators nationwide.
The “Vehicle Management System” was developed by Fujitsu based on the issues and know-how of JR Freight’s railway vehicle maintenance, and it saves labor in maintenance operations and standardizes work quality. Fujitsu will introduce a “vehicle management system” to railway companies, and JR Freight will support the system’s
implementation based on its own operating results to help establish the system. This allows us to implement everything from system introduction to established operation at a reasonable price in a short period of time, without having to develop a system from scratch for each company.
By jointly deploying a “vehicle management system,” the two companies will save labor on railway vehicle maintenance work, which requires a large amount of human resources, and contribute to resolving issues such as labor shortages in the railway industry.

JR Freight, which transports freight by rail using its nationwide railway network, is striving to become a leader in the modal shift of moving freight from trucks and other vehicles to the use of railways, which has a lower environmental impact. The maintenance work for the rolling stock that supports this requires a large amount of human resources, so we were looking for ways to save labor.
JR Freight, together with Fujitsu, has developed a “vehicle management system” to improve the work efficiency of inspection and repair work in maintenance operations, make information open, and reduce the occurrence of human errors. We implemented unified management of inspection information using the system. As a result, JR Freight has demonstrated the high effectiveness of its implementation, including a significant reduction in administrative man-hours, ensuring system consistency to prevent legal violations, and reducing maintenance costs by reviewing regular inspection cycles.
The two companies will work together to develop this system, viewing the JR Freight example as a common policy among railway operators. [About the function overview and introduction concept of the “vehicle management system”]
1. Systematize basic operations in maintenance The “vehicle management system” centrally manages information such as the condition of railway vehicles and parts, maintenance plans, condition confirmation, and records of treatment responses, and also records the details of inspections performed on site. Digitize your work using tablets and other devices. This enables labor savings in railway vehicle maintenance work and optimization of inspection cycles based on inspection data.
2. Measures for safety and security that support social infrastructure The basic format creation function of the inspection record sheet of the “vehicle management system” allows for flexible and easy addition of new inspection types and changes to inspection items, making it possible to add new inspection types and change inspection items. This will speed up response times, etc. In addition, automatic calculation of the next inspection deadline and alert functions contribute to improving the accuracy of work quality.
3. Introduction of a system based on the concept of “Fit to Standard” The vehicle management system is based on the concept of “Fit to Standard,” which aligns operations with standard functions. Expand by setting. The roles of both companies will be to reduce the burden on companies that have introduced the system, with Fujitsu introducing the system and JR Freight providing support at the time of system introduction, such as initial input of vehicle information and support for creating basic formats for inspection records. , we will realize the established operation of this system.
