Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel & Towers is part of an industry-academia collaboration project with Kanagawa University, located near Yokohama Station, and is co-planning a stay plan with Kanagawa University students called “A Trip of Gratitude – A Gift for Your Loved Ones.” Sales will begin on Monday, March 25, 2024.
This project started in May 2023 after a lecture on hotel business given by Tetsuya Ishihara, general manager of the Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel, at the same university’s School of Global Japanese Studies, Department of International Cultural Exchange. Among the large number of lecture participants, four students enrolled in Professor Noriko Takai’s seminar and deepened their learning about tourism behavior theory. In order to explore corporate issues, they first learned about hotel products through hotel tours and
accommodation experiences. We begin our activities by deepening our understanding of Placing importance on posing issues with free ideas from the students’ perspective, they held numerous brainstorming and meetings with hotel staff, enumerating hypotheses and ideas. The theme was “I want to increase the rate of accommodation occupancy among generations.” Therefore, with the aim of encouraging the use of hotels for students of the same generation as the students
participating in the project, we have developed a stay plan that captures the needs of young people, which will further revitalize the use of tourism around the hotels and increase collaboration with the local community. It took about half a year to commercialize it. Focusing on the fact that “opportunities to say ‘thank you’ have decreased since we became adults,” we decided to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to our loved ones, coinciding with the graduation season in early spring and the start of a new life. This plan has a message from a student’s perspective: “Why don’t you do it?”, and the purpose of this plan is to give the gift of special “time” at a hotel to parents and loved ones who live far away. Before your stay, you can send an invitation from the hotel to your loved ones, create a special moment to talk about memories at the bar or lounge, or even enjoy a stroll in Yokohama, where you spent your student days, as a “milestone in your life” as a parent and child. This is an accommodation plan.
