Keisuke Honda held a press conference for the 2024 season, the second year of the national soccer tournament [4v4] for children of developmental age.
*New establishment of U12 category and Asian Games concept announced. * Now, where soccer star Keisuke Honda serves as representative director. Do Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) announced in March 2024 regarding the 2024 season (hereinafter referred to as ’24 season), which will be the second year of the national soccer tournament [4v4] for children of growing age. A press conference was held on the 25th (Monday) at “Saitama Stadium 2002″ (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture).
In addition to looking back on the first year of the tournament, we presented an overview of the 2024 season, Keisuke Honda’s thoughts on the tournament, the new U12 category, and our plans for the Asian Games. In addition, after the press conference, a 4v4 tournament was held as a pre-competition before the start of April.

Ryosuke Suzuki explained the results of the first year of the tournament. [4v4] started in August 2023, and 592 tournaments were held over four months, with 15,398 people and 1,318 teams
participating.
*About the ‘24 season*
[4v4] is a new national soccer tournament held in a 4-on-4 format for children of developmental age, with the mission of “bringing the world soccer tournament to all children.” This is not a tournament that ends once you lose, but instead, you will continue to improve through the matches and challenge yourself over and over again, aiming to rank in the top 32 in the rankings or win the Gold Rank tournament. The 48 selected teams in each category will compete in the JAPAN competition held in December.

In addition to the U10 category, which is equivalent to 4th grade elementary school students, a new U12 category has been created, allowing players up to 6th grade elementary school students to participate. Furthermore, up to 7 members can be registered per team, up from 6 members until last year (please note, however, that only 6 members can enter the tournament).

Additionally, the ’24 season JAPAN CUP will be held from December 24th (Tuesday) to December 26th (Thursday).
ZOZOPARK HONDA FOOTBALL for 2 days on the 24th and 25th
A group stage will be held at AREA to advance to the finals. On the 26th, the final event was held at LaLa, a large multipurpose facility scheduled to open in the spring of 2024.
It will be held at “arena TOKYO-BAY”. U10 and U12 will be held simultaneously at the same venue and on the same day.

Honda revealed his response, saying, “We received a variety of feedback last year, but the response was great in terms of education, with parents praising the rule without coaches and the rule design that forces players to think and play.” .
He added, “I want to take on the challenge of expanding into Asia this year.We would like to hold tournaments in each country in 2024, and hold the Asia Cup in the summer of 2025.We value our mission of “a world tournament for every child.” “In the future, we would like to expand this tournament to a scale similar to the World Cup,” he said, revealing his future plans.
In the Q&A session that followed, reporters asked Honda a variety of questions. Typical Q&A is as follows
Q: “What did you feel when you actually interacted with the children last year?” A: “My first impression is that the level is uneven depending on the region. I think that the disparity in opportunities in various sports, not just 4v4, is connected to the disparity in ability at an early age. Last year’s top 8 to 16 More than half of them were the Tokyo team.The winning team was of a high level and had a well-designed rule, so the competition was very interesting as they had the possibility of beating the adult legend team.The children who participated in 4v4 became the Japanese representative. However, we are creating this tournament with a vision that goes beyond that. I feel that I want people to learn the value of thinking and playing.”
Q: “What did the children experience last year?”
A: “We created a system that allows you to see all the national rankings online. I don’t think there is any other system that can provide information on competitors of the same age across the country for this age group. It will also help reduce the opportunity gap. Isn’t it?”
Q: “What advice would you give to children who practice the “no supervision rule”?”
A: “When I actually watch the children, I think leaders are born on the team.I want the leaders to take the place of the coach, and I want them to develop strategies to win among friends in a flat
interpersonal relationship.” I want you to practice.”
Q: “What we expect from U12 players and the creation of a new category” A: “I think the physique will change and the level will rise significantly. There is already a national tournament for U12, but as a new showcase, we are creating a position unique to 4v4, which has competitive characteristics that cannot be disguised by power or speed. I wish I had.”
Q: “What kind of tournament do you want the Asian Games to be?” A: “There is no Asian Games for this age group, so I want to make it a special event. I think it will be a good experience for the children who participate from Asia. I think there are countries that can play 4v4 and there are countries that can’t. We have started approaching seven to eight countries and are working toward the goal of holding as many events as possible.”
