AirX Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Satoru Tezuka, hereinafter referred to as “AirX”), which builds the infrastructure that will be the source of next-generation air mobility such as helicopters, private jets, and flying cars, is Tsukuba Airways Co., Ltd. Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kamisaka, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Representative Director: Toshiyuki Nakata, hereinafter referred to as “Tsukuba Airlines”), the “Tsukuba Flying Car Test Field” will be held for two consecutive days on March 20th and 21st, 2024. We are pleased to announce that we have successfully conducted a flying car demonstration flight in Kamisakaya, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. This is the first time* that a “flying car” will fly over the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Background of implementation
In recent years, new concepts and technologies for the transportation of people have been introduced, such as MaaS (Mobility as a Service), self-driving cars, bike sharing, and electric scooters, and the concept of the transportation of people and goods is changing. In the field of air mobility, efforts are underway to bring together the public and private sectors towards the social implementation of flying cars, led by the Public-Private Council for Air Mobility Revolution, in which we participate.
AirX will also collaborate in the field of flying cars with Tsukuba Airways, with whom it collaborates in the helicopter business, and will contribute to the realization of the “smart city concept” set by Tsukuba City in addition to the social implementation of flying cars. As a first step, we have opened the Tsukuba Flying Car Test Field, a flying car demonstration and infrastructure base in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Future prospects
Based at the Tsukuba Flying Car Test Field, we will achieve the following four points.
Technology demonstration:
We will confirm the safe and effective operation of flying cars and contribute to the advancement of technology.
Vertiport maintenance (*2):
The Tsukuba Heliport will be developed as a vertiport base for flying cars and will play a central role in the Kanto region.
Construction of infrastructure base for flight management, etc.: In anticipation of the future operation of thousands of flying cars in the Tokyo metropolitan area, we will build the foundations of an operation management system and a maintenance base within 50 km of Tokyo to provide a foundation for operations.
Improving social acceptance:
In addition to exhibiting, we will create an environment where demonstration flights can be held, allowing people to experience flying cars up close, and contributing to increasing the social acceptance of the passenger experience in the region.
