In addition to the normalization of social and economic activities after the coronavirus pandemic and the effects of the weaker yen, the opening of new tourist facilities and accommodation facilities in the city has resulted in many tourists from Japan and abroad visiting.
On the other hand, Otaru City is facing a serious situation of population decline and labor shortage. According to “Japan’s Future Population Projections by Region (Reiwa 5 Estimate)” (*2) published by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research in December 2023, Otaru City’s working-age population (15-64 years old) ) is expected to decrease from 56,310 in 2020 to 22,755 in 2050, resulting in a serious labor shortage.
Meanwhile, in Otaru City, “Timey” has already been used in the accommodation, tourism, and restaurant industries, and the number of job openings posted on “Timey” in the city has increased from the previous year in February 2024. This was approximately 3.7 times compared to the same month.
In this collaboration agreement with Otaru City, we will work with Otaru City to stimulate the potential labor force in the region by encouraging citizens such as students, children raising children, and senior citizens to use the free part-time job service “Timey”. We aim to resolve the labor shortage.
First, we will expand the use of Timey in the tourism industry during the summer, when demand for tourism is high in the city, and then move forward with its use in a variety of industries. Furthermore, we plan to utilize the service “Timey Travel,” which allows people to find their second hometown through the experience of “working” in rural areas, and to implement initiatives aimed at creating a related population from outside Hokkaido, and encouraging them to migrate and settle.
Based on our company’s mission of “creating infrastructure that expands life’s possibilities through work,” we will contribute to solving the labor shortage in Otaru City through this partnership agreement.
About collaboration between Timey and local governments
Our company first concluded a business partnership agreement with Gero City, Gifu Prefecture in March 2023, and in October of the same year, we concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement (*3) with Niseko Town and Kutchan Town. This is the third case of collaboration with By collaborating with Otaru City, whose busy season is in the summer, and Niseko Town and Kutchan Town, whose busy season is in the winter, we aim to secure a workforce in the Shiribeshi area in accordance with the busy seasons.
