Seibu Railway Co., Ltd. (Location: Tokorozawa City, Saitama
Prefecture, President: Shuichiro Ogawa) and NKB Co., Ltd. (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Noriyuki Sotoya) are jointly operating Let’s Enjoy Tokyo Co., Ltd. (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Noriyuki Sotoya). In collaboration with “Biai Tokyo” run by President Shinsuke ), a stamp rally will be held from March 29th (Friday) to June 30th, 2024, using the “Seibu Railway Hot Spring Bias Map” that covers public baths along the Seibu Line. It will be held until Sunday.
What is “Biai Tokyo”?
“Prejudice Tokyo” is a project that works with tourism-related companies and communities to rediscover and disseminate the charm of the region, which is not just a common sight, through the
“prejudice” of people. Seibu Railway and “Biai Tokyo” are collaborating to hold a stamp rally in order to let people know about the charms of the area along the Seibu Line that only local people know about, and to have people come and experience it.

This time’s theme is “public bath”
Japan’s public baths peaked at 17,999 in 1968, but due to aging public bath facilities, lack of successors, and rising fuel costs, the number of public baths continues to decline, and by 2023 there will be 1,755 public baths, down from the peak. Although the number of public baths has decreased by more than 90% (*), public baths still play a role as community places where local people gather and real interaction between people occurs. We chose public baths as our theme with the aim of fostering attachment to the area and the railway lines through interaction with local people at public bathhouses, which are still in existence even though their numbers are decreasing.
This time, under the supervision of essayist Shinobu Machida, who has published numerous books as a leading authority on public bath research, we will introduce “Sannowayu” and “Sekaiyu”, which are known for their beautiful tile paintings, as well as open-air baths that are rare in Tokyo. A map features unique public baths mainly along the Shinjuku Line, such as “Ichinoyu,” which has a bath, and “Preserved Public Bath / Kobakarayu,” which is a relocated and restored prewar public bath building, and features facilities that are eligible for the stamp rally. Among them, the public baths along the Shinjuku Line are characterized by the fact that they offer more visual entertainment than those along other lines. It can be said that the line is home to many “public bath museums” such as tile paintings, mosaics, and paintings. The best part of visiting the hot springs on the Shinjuku Line is looking at the murals of each public bath and enjoying its unique character while soaking in the hot water.
