Yokohama Hakkeijima Co., Ltd.
[Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium] “Uminomo Recycle”, a
customer-participatory eco-action that turns “garbage” into
“resources” [Starts operation from April 1, 2024 (Monday)]
……
Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, an aquarium that creates new connections between the sea and people, and between water and people, will be holding a recycling promotion activity called “Uminomo Recycle,” which aims to create a recycling-oriented society, starting April 1, 2024 (Monday). ) will start. With the cooperation of Toyo Seikan Group Holdings Co., Ltd., a leader in the packaging container industry, we are now using used food court cups, which had previously been disposed of as “garbage,” as recyclable “resources.” I aim to go.
In addition to changing drink serving cups from plastic to paper, we will also be introducing a “Re-CUP WASHER,” which makes it easy to wash used paper cups. “Re-CUP WASHER” is a machine developed by “Tokan Kogyo Co., Ltd.” of the Toyo Seikan Group that can perform water pressure washing with one-touch operation. Customers wash used paper cups using the Re-CUP WASHER, which is then collected in a special box and recycled into newspapers and other materials.
Through this activity, we aim to create a sustainable aquarium together with our customers.

In addition, we included
instructions on how to use “Re-CUP WASHER” on the paper cups to encourage as many customers as possible to participate.
*We plan to gradually change the plastic cups we continue to use to ones made of environmentally friendly materials.
Paper cup washing machine “Re-CUP WASHER”
“Re-CUP WASHER,” developed by “Tokan Kogyo Co., Ltd.,” a member of the Toyo Seikan Group, will be installed in the food court on the first floor, which enables water pressure washing of used paper cups with one-touch operation. The washing water of “Re-CUP WASHER” is warm water, which can wash away cream and sugar left inside the paper cup. Paper cups become combustible waste if they have leftover drinks or dirt, but with the simple act of washing them, they become a recyclable “resource.” Customers wash used paper cups using the Re-CUP WASHER, which is then collected in a special box and recycled into newspapers and other materials.
