It was established as the Kanagawa Prefectural Dog Management Center in April 1972, and in 1972, the name was changed to the Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Protection Center with the aim of making a qualitative change to animal protection administration. Since opening, we have promoted activities to raise awareness of animal welfare, such as fostering puppies and operating places to interact with animals. Achieve zero culling of dogs in 2014 and zero culling of cats in 2014. Then, in June 2019, the function was changed from a “facility for disposing of animals” to a “facility for keeping animals alive,” and the facility was newly opened as the “Kanagawa Prefecture Animal Welfare Center.”

* Reasons for supporting Kanagawa Prefecture Animal Welfare Center * Toretta Cats Representative Director Koji Hori
It was the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011 that led me to develop a cat litter box called Toretta in hopes of keeping cats healthy and happy, and to start a cat health care business. Through reporting on the earthquake disaster, I was shocked to learn that some pets were left behind or were not allowed into homes in the affected areas. I have always loved animals, and ever since I can remember, there has always been some kind of animal in my house, and they have always been part of my family. Also, I was able to overcome the various difficulties I faced after starting my own business thanks to my beloved dog, who would greet me with his tail, no matter how late at night I got home. For me, it’s not hard to imagine, and I don’t even want to imagine, the pain of having an owner and pet separated. “Creating a society where pets and people can coexist” became my next business goal. After changing the business content several times, we arrived at the current “IoT smart cat toilet” business.
Coincidentally, the Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Welfare Center (Hiratsuka City) opened in 2019, the same year that Toretta was released. Sympathizing with the center’s philosophy of “from a facility for disposing of animals to a facility for keeping them alive,” our company has supported the Kanagawa Prefectural Welfare Center with naming rights since its opening. The space that promotes the adoption of rescued cats through interaction between rescued cats and their owners is named the “Tretta NYAN Room” and is loved by many visitors.
I often visit the Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Welfare Center and reflect on the reason I started my current business, which helps me overcome difficulties. Every time I visit, I stand in front of the cenotaph inside the center and pledge to “realize a society in which pets and people can coexist.”

This cat litter box measures weight and urine data 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without stressing your cat, allowing you to monitor your cat’s health even when your family is sleeping or away. A sensor that senses minute changes in weight not only measures body weight, but also measures changes in weight from entering the room to leaving the room to measure urine volume, number of times urinating, number of times entering the room, length of stay, and time elapsed since the last time. Using the world’s first AI cat facial recognition technology (patented in Japan, China, and the United States), we have made it possible to identify individual cats without a collar or special tag.
By linking with Toretta’s dedicated app, you can check the data in easy-to-understand graphs, and even small changes can be seen at a glance. Furthermore, with the AI health check function jointly developed with a veterinarian, you will receive check results and veterinarian messages every day from over 5,000 patterns based on AI analysis of data and records of your cat’s condition and appetite. The acquired data can be shared not only with the owner but also with the family doctor using the physical condition change alert function (veterinary hospital automatic collaboration alert function).

* Create a society where cats can live happily even after they reach the age of 30. *

For the health and happiness of even more cats, Toletta Cats will continue to develop services that contribute to the health of cats, including the camera-equipped cat litter box “Toletta,” which can be easily provided by each owner at home. We will create a society where cats can maintain their health and live healthy lives even into their 30s.

* “Aim. A cat’s lifespan is 30 years. ”*
