When we asked business owners, “What made you decide to start a business?”, the most common response (149 people) was “It’s something I want to do” (149 people).
Next, a large number of respondents said “I want a work style that suits me (89 people)” and “I want to make use of my experience and qualifications (58 people),” indicating that wanting a work style that cannot be achieved at the workplace is the reason for starting a business. It has become.
The results showed that only a small number of people answered “for unavoidable reasons.” In other words, many business owners start businesses to achieve what they want to do.
“The desire to be of help to someone” accounts for the majority. Business owners who answered “It’s something I want to do” started their own businesses for the following reasons.
▪I want to develop a business that will revitalize the local area. ▪I want to help people around the world through social welfare work. ▪I want to make many people smile by utilizing my specialty. What they have in common seems to be a desire to help others, such as “I want to energize Japan” and “I want to make many people smile.” In addition, there are also specific reasons for starting a business, such as “I want to balance work and private life by deciding my own working hours and place” and “I want to start a business to make use of my difficult qualifications such as Small and Medium Enterprise Consultant and Administrative Scrivener.” I could see it.
What do people who have started a business think are good about it? As a result of the survey, many entrepreneurs felt that they enjoyed being able to reflect their ideas in their work. They also seem to feel that they are supported by many people by utilizing the knowledge, experience, and connections they have cultivated in their work.
The good thing about being an entrepreneur is that you feel a great sense of accomplishment when you use your own power to help customers and society and receive words of gratitude. Although in the minority, some respondents said, “I don’t have to worry about interpersonal relationships at work.”
What do people who have started a business think are having trouble? When you start a business, you have to do everything from “funding”, “business planning”, “market expansion”, and “hiring human resources”. Because you have to perform a wide range of tasks, you may find yourself acutely aware of your lack of knowledge.
Specifically, the following responses were received:
▪Difficulty attracting customers because you don’t know how to make your company’s services known
▪I don’t have any accounting experience so I’m worried about accounting. ▪I am pressed for time because I have to perform various tasks. The freedom and self-actualization of starting a business is attractive, but it is not uncommon to hit a wall as you have to perform a wide range of tasks such as fundraising, accounting, and recruiting. If you are aiming to start a business, I would like you to overcome the hurdles of starting a business by making advance preparations and utilizing your network.
