Part 2 Development of Si-based negative electrode coated with inorganic binder and electrode properties
[Purpose of the lecture]
In order to increase the capacity of lithium-ion batteries, research and development is underway on silicon (Si)-based negative electrodes, which can achieve several times higher capacity than conventional graphite-based negative electrodes. However, if the binding strength of the electrode binder is insufficient, the active material (mixture material) layer tends to peel off from the current collector, resulting in a shortened cycle life. In order to extend the lifespan of Si-based negative electrodes, it is important to develop a technology that can maintain a conductive network during charging and discharging. In this lecture, we will introduce how coating Si negative electrodes with inorganic binders contributes to higher capacity, longer life, and higher safety of batteries.
【program】
1. Lithium-ion battery market trends
2. Requirements for next-generation secondary batteries
3. Characteristics, peripheral technology, and morphology of Si-based negative electrodes
4. Risk of battery runaway caused by conductivity of Si-based negative electrode 5. Development of inorganic binder for Si negative electrode, electrode characteristics, and safety

Part 3: Technological trends in negative electrode binders and their impact on battery characteristics
[Purpose of the lecture]
With the expansion of lithium-ion secondary batteries into in-vehicle applications, cells are becoming larger and have higher capacity, and technological development is progressing to improve productivity and lower costs. The binder used is recognized as an important member that contributes not only to the process functions related to cell manufacturing but also to the improvement of the cell functions. In this lecture, we will introduce the concept of binder design and other technical development examples regarding negative electrode binders based on the required functions, and discuss future trends.
