Tohokushinsha Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Keiichi Kosaka) will launch a special project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the television broadcast of “Space Battleship Yamato.”

The first episode of the “Space Battleship Yamato” series, a monumental science fiction anime, was broadcast on October 6, 1974, and the final episode was broadcast on March 30, 1975. Today marks exactly 49 years since the last episode was aired, and it will also be the 50th anniversary. During this 50th anniversary project, he posted on X last year, “If I hadn’t encountered Space Battleship Yamato, I don’t think my life would be the same today.”49 At the request of Mr. Hideaki Anno, who has been a big fan of Yamato for many years, we decided to be involved in planning and producing. In addition to multiple book projects proposed by Hideaki Anno, we are also planning to hold a commemorative screening event for the TV series on October 6, 2024, the date of the first TV version, and an exhibition gathering valuable related materials.

The opening picture and song right after it starts are so cool! I was paralyzed by the opening of the main title, and the movement of Yamato as the camera pulls away from the captain’s cabin, which is directly connected to it, gripped my heart, and I still feel that way to this day. I really regretted missing the first episode. From the second episode to the final episode, I avoided all
difficulties (I had no choice but to sacrifice watching “Great Mazinger”, intentionally delayed cram school time, and ran back to my apartment the moment cram school ended) on Sunday at 7 o’clock. From half-time onwards, I made sure to sit in front of the TV. I vividly remember the shock of the first episode, which I was finally able to watch when it was rebroadcast. Once again, I feel that 49 years ago today was the moment when my life was decided. I posted this because I wanted to express my personal gratitude to the epoch-making work “Space Battleship Yamato.”
