Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are extremely rare malignant tumors, but they are prone to recurrence after surgery and metastasis to multiple organs, and even in modern times with advances in medical technology, they are still one of the malignant tumors with poor prognosis.
We have newly discovered that the interaction of two proteins causes cancer cells to change into a form that makes them more likely to invade and metastasize to their surroundings.
By inhibiting protein interactions, it is expected to be applied to the development of new cancer therapeutics that suppress the malignancy of cancer.

◆Overview
National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu), Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shota Kashihira, Okayama University Academic Research Institute, Department of Biomedical Sciences (Medical), Tissue Function Repair Professor Tsuyoshi Takarada, Lecturer Chika Takao, Research Associate Professor Daisuke Yamada, Assistant Professor Tatsunori Ohsone, Orthopedics: Professor Toshifumi Ozaki, Lecturer Tomohiro Fujiwara, Professor Toshiyuki Kunisada of the Musculoskeletal Medical Materials Development Course, Nakata of the Musculoskeletal Traumatology Course. A research group led by Associate Professor Eiji and Cell Biology Professor Masakiyo Sakaguchi has discovered one of the mechanisms by which malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors become malignant.
The research results were published as a Research Article in the international scientific journal “British Journal of Cancer”. This time, we have newly discovered one of the mechanisms by which tumors become malignant due to the interaction between two proteins. It has been suggested that by inhibiting this interaction, it may be possible to suppress the malignancy of cancer, and it is expected that this will be applied to the development of novel cancer treatment drugs.
This information was released by Okayama University on March 27, 2024.

We have been conducting research to date with the aim of developing a treatment for malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, which is one of the malignant tumors with a poor prognosis. I hope that this research will lead to even the slightest possible treatment for patients.
