Dream press release*
This press release is a dream sent out by a business operator who sympathizes with the April Dream project and wants to make April 1st a day full of dreams, hoping to make them come true.
In 2035, Osaka has become the largest producer of sweet potatoes in Japan. In autumn, the warm scenery spreads out as local residents enjoy harvesting sweet potatoes in various fields. The name of the sweet potato is “Yume Silk”. A sweet and delicious sweet potato filled with three dreams.
* Our company supports April Dream, which aims to make April 1st the day to share your dreams. This press release is a dream of “Osaka Potato”. *
* [Osaka Potato Greetings] *
nice to meet you. My name is Watanabe and I am the representative of Osaka Potato, who grows the sweet potato “Yume Silk” that originated in Osaka. We aim to realize our three dreams, and with the slogan “Make Osaka a sweet potato production center!”, we work hard every day to make sweet potatoes a reality.
In 2020, I started farming on weekends by chance, and it taught me, as a company employee at the time, the richness of “a life surrounded by nature.” On the other hand, I learned that in Osaka agriculture, which is undergoing urbanization, the difficulty of agricultural management has led to an increase in people quitting farming, a decrease in the number of farmers, and various social issues are steadily progressing.
Osaka Potato considers three challenges for Osaka agriculture. ●There are fewer environments where children can play in nature. ●Adults are also moving away from production areas and have fewer opportunities to think about food and agriculture.
●Abandoned cultivated land continues to steadily increase

In order to solve these problems, we started cultivating “Yume Silk,” a sweet potato that originated in Osaka. We hope that you will take a look at our activities and look forward to the harvest of dream silk in the fall of 2024.
* [Sweet potato “Yume Silk” originating from Osaka] *
“Yume Silk”, produced by Osaka Potato, is a sweet potato that is characterized by its silky smoothness and elegant sweetness, thanks to our innovative cultivation and aging methods.
In addition, producers are limited to those who sympathize with and are working on the following three dreams to solve the problems of Osaka agriculture.
Osaka Potato aims to create a form of agriculture in which the more the demand for dream silk increases, the more the production area and production volume will increase, and the three social issues will be solved.
* [Specific efforts to make dreams come true] *
At Osaka Potato, we have implemented the following initiatives in 2023 in order to realize our three dreams.
1. “Autumn Sweet Potato Harvest Festival” for children
Many people came to visit our fields every day, and we held a harvest festival with over 1,000 visitors in total.
2. Accepting people with agricultural experience
In 2023, we invited approximately 50 people interested in agriculture to the fields and were able to create a place where they could think about various things while working on the farm.
3. Sweet potato cultivation using abandoned cultivated land
In 2023, the first year of operation, we will expand to 150a (approximately 4,500 tsubo), and in 2024, our second year, we will increase the area to 250a (approximately 7,500 tsubo), and we are working to steadily increase the area of cultivated fields and reduce the amount of abandoned farmland.
* [Future goals] *
By expanding these activities year by year, we at Osaka Potato aim for the day in 2035 that Osaka will be known as a major producer of sweet potatoes!
Yume Silk was cultivated all over Osaka, children played digging for potatoes in fields all over Osaka, and we adults began to live our lives with an interest in food and agriculture. We are also looking toward a future in which the amount of abandoned farmland in Osaka will be reduced to zero.
Osaka Potato dreams of Osaka becoming a sweet potato production center in 2035, and would like to steadily cultivate this activity every day. “April Dream” is a PR event where companies send out their dreams that they would like to achieve in the future on April 1st.
This is a project by TIMES. We are seriously aiming to make this dream come true.
