TOWING Co., Ltd. and Mie Prefecture Credit Agricultural Cooperative Federation conclude a collaboration agreement
*~Aiming to resolve primary industries including agriculture in Mie Prefecture~* TOWING Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and CEO: Kohei Nishida, hereinafter referred to as “TOWING”) and the Mie Prefecture Credit Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Representative Director and Chairman: Masaki Naito, hereinafter referred to as “JA Mie Shinren”) are involved in agriculture in Mie Prefecture. The following Comprehensive Collaboration Agreement (hereinafter referred to as the “Comprehensive Collaboration Agreement”) was concluded with the aim of solving various issues in the primary industry, as well as considering the on-site implementation of the Green Food System Strategy and the realization of collaboration. We have concluded.
1. Background
Recently, efforts within Mie Prefecture have begun to promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector and the use of organic fertilizers in conjunction with reduced chemical fertilizers, which are the goals of the Green Food System Strategy. One of the products promoting this initiative is Soratan, a
high-performance biochar that uses biomass from Mie Prefecture as a raw material and can create soil that can efficiently use organic fertilizers and store carbon in farmland. TOWING has been promoting a demonstration test with JA Mie Shinren regarding the possibility of disseminating “ within Mie Prefecture. Through demonstrations with producers in the prefecture and JA, we were able to achieve certain results regarding the use of suspended charcoal on farmland. In addition, we held discussions with JA Mie Shinren about the possibility of manufacturing Sora Charcoal in Mie Prefecture, and focused on matching with organic biomass dischargers and compost center operators in Mie Prefecture. We also reached a consensus on a policy for collaboration aimed at realizing a consumer model.

Based on the above background, TOWING and JA Mie Shinren are working to produce sora charcoal using biomass in Mie Prefecture, disseminate it to producers in Mie Prefecture, and generate carbon credits by using biochar on farmland. We have concluded a comprehensive collaboration agreement for the purpose of considering collaboration regarding creation.

As part of JA Mie Shinren’s medium-term management plan, as part of its efforts to further demonstrate its financial intermediary function in the food and agriculture sector, the agricultural structure is changing, with the number of large-scale farmers and agricultural corporations increasing while individual farmers and cultivated areas are decreasing. As agricultural financial institutions continue to change, in order to support the growth of farmers and increase the added value of agricultural and livestock products and increase farmers’ incomes, agricultural financial institutions aim to perform more financial intermediary functions than ever before. I am. 2. Contents of cooperation agreement
(1) Proposal and promotion of agricultural land use demonstration tests using high-performance biochar for producers in Mie Prefecture (2) Consideration of collaboration regarding the creation and sale of agriculturally derived carbon credits
(3) Investigation and consideration of biomass resources as raw materials for high-performance biochar
(4) Consideration of measures to promote effective and sustainable dissemination of high-performance biochar to members in unit agricultural cooperatives
3. Company profile
[Overview of TOWING Co., Ltd.]

TOWING Co., Ltd. is a green and agritech venture (*1) company from Nagoya University that was established in February 2020 with the mission of “realizing a super circular society based on sustainable next-generation agriculture.”

We have developed high-performance biochar “Soratan,” a soil improvement material that simultaneously reduces greenhouse gas emissions, reduces chemical fertilizer use, and converts organic matter. As an established business operator certified under the Green Food System Act, we received J-Credit program certification for biochar farmland application in June 2023.

In January 2024, approximately 1.25 billion yen was adopted in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ SBIR Phase 3, and in February, we concluded a partnership agreement with Toyohashi City, the first local government in the country. In the future, by upcycling unused biomass into suspended charcoal and using it for agriculture, we will not only reduce greenhouse gases but also create a sustainable food production system.
