**
Convert mountains and forests into resources and create a circular Satoyama. *Social significance and prospects of Forest Door Co., Ltd., which brings about disruptive innovation in the forestry industry* This press release is a dream sent out by a business operator who sympathizes with the April Dream project and wants to make April 1st a day full of dreams, hoping to make them come true.
Our company supports April Dream, which aims to make April 1st the day to share dreams. This press release is a dream of “Forest Door Co., Ltd.”
What is Forest Door Co., Ltd.?
Forest Door Co., Ltd. is a social company that operates “FOREST DOOR – Former Kagura Elementary School”, a facility that utilizes an abandoned school in Tanba City, Hyogo Prefecture.
“FOREST” including our company
GROUP is a forestry group consisting of four companies based in Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture. The group carries out everything from forest maintenance to wood processing and sales, realizing the “sixth industrialization of forests,” and also working on local issues such as projects to utilize closed schools.
Currently, the lack of forestry workers is a nationwide issue. Mountain trees left unchecked can cause serious disasters such as landslides, and the value of degraded mountain forests decreases, creating a vicious cycle that further creates a shortage of workers. we*
We view forestry as a “new start-up” and aim to create a regional design that will lead to a virtuous cycle of both “satoyama nature” and “local economy” by promoting the utilization of forest resources. *
Achieving the “sixth industrialization of forests” as a group Facility for reusing abandoned schools “FOREST DOOR -Former Kagura Elementary School-”
Aiming to “resource the mountains and forests of Tamba” through four projects all at once
Our group-wide vision is to “resource the mountains and forests of Tamba and realize a business that brings happiness to the community, our customers, and ourselves.” *
Originally, three companies, Mori no Wa, which engaged in forest management, Kiei, which did lumber and other woodwork, and Eiken, a construction company, collaborated and worked together to turn Tanba’s mountain forests into a sixth industry. I was going.
Furthermore, from 2022, a social company called “Forest Door” that tackles regional issues has been added.
The basis of our business is “Let’s turn the valueless area into value” With this in mind, at Forest Door, we would like to revitalize the region by creating new innovations by combining “forestry” and “closed schools,” two things that are said to have low value in rural areas.
* “Create disruptive innovation.” Innovative initiatives deeply related to SDGs* FOREST GROUP *
Our mission is to realize “disruptive innovation” through innovative initiatives deeply related to the SDGs. *
We have been focusing on fundamental reform of the forestry industry and promoting the recovery of wood as a resource for 50 years. This initiative ranges from building, furniture, and toy manufacturing to biomass power generation using offcuts and even carbon offset projects.
In addition, we are working to revitalize the local economy through new uses of mountain forests, such as opening athletic and campgrounds that utilize the space created after tree thinning. We aim to realize a recycling-oriented society by returning the profits generated to the mountain owners and reinvesting them in forest maintenance.
Aiming to create a recycling-oriented society based on forestry In addition, we have opened a facility called “FOREST DOOR” which utilizes an abandoned school.
Based at the former Kagura Elementary School, we disseminate information about forests and mountains and create opportunities for the general public to become interested in forests.
The operation of a co-working space that uses plenty of local solid wood, a direct sales store and DIY corner where local wood can be purchased directly, and a wooden toy museum will create new fans of wood, while providing facilities for organizations and companies. We are also developing strategies to make it easier for companies and governments to recognize the value based on SDGs and ESG/CSR. This aims to promote the use of wood and improve the wood usage rate in private companies.

In April 2023, we will open Wood Villa “SHIGURA”, an inn that can be rented out to only one group per day.
The facility has a wood stove and boiler, an outdoor bonfire space, and an inner deck where you can have a BBQ even in the rain. In addition, the entire sauna area can be reserved for private use, providing guests with a relaxing space filled with the warmth of wood, allowing guests to enjoy the wood and have a relaxing time.
Firewood made from unused materials from the Tamba area is used as an energy source in the facility’s wood stoves and wood boilers, as well as the outdoor bonfire space and sauna stove in the sauna area. By effectively utilizing local resources, we will reduce fossil fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, participants can experience chopping firewood by preparing the firewood they will actually use with their own hands. You can contribute to the revitalization of forest maintenance through the use of our
facilities.

[What FOREST GROUP aims for]
As mentioned at the beginning, the forest area, which accounts for approximately 75% of the area of Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, is currently not being sufficiently thinned, which may increase the risk of natural disasters in the future.
Against this background, in order to build a sustainable and disaster-resistant local community, it is essential to create a system in which forests can generate profits.
We view forestry as a new start-up business, and aim to contribute to regional revitalization through the effective use of forest resources, and to create a regional design that creates a virtuous cycle for both the natural environment and local economy.
