Consumers’ Cooperative Pal System Ibaraki
Agri-Yasato (Ishioka City, Representative: Susumu Shibayama), an NPO with which Tochigi (Headquarters: Mito City, Umeka, Chairman: Yasuyo Aoki) collaborates through direct-to-farm exchange, is participating in the “Discover Treasures of Rural Areas” sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. ” (10th selection) in the community/local production for local consumption category. To celebrate this occasion, a celebration will be held at Asahi Satoyama School in Ishioka City from 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th, along with the three co-ops with whom we also interact.
Agricultural experience using abandoned school is highly rated “Discover Treasures of Rural Areas” aims to revitalize the region and improve income by drawing out the local resources of rural areas, in order to realize the government’s goal of “strong agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries,” and “beautiful and vibrant rural areas.” We have selected excellent examples of initiatives that address these issues and disseminated them nationwide. Agriya Satoha was selected in the Community/Local Production for Local Consumption category in recognition of its efforts to provide agricultural experiences and support for new farmers at an experiential tourism facility on the site of a former elementary school.

Tochigi has held experiences and exchange activities with users at Asahi Satoyama School, an experiential tourism facility that utilizes a closed school, along with Agri-Yasato. The celebration was held by Ibaraki Co-op Consumers’ Cooperative (Omitama City, Chairman Toshio Shibasaki), Toto Consumers’ Cooperative (Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, Chairman Yoshiharu Kazama), and Yotsuha Consumers’ Cooperative (Tochigi), who also continue to experience and interact. It will be held jointly with Oyama City, Prefecture, and Eriko Miwa, Chairman of the Board.

Tochigi will continue to expand understanding and support for exchange centered on agriculture at Asahi Satoyama School, and strengthen collaboration with organizations and governments that support a sustainable future for the Yasato area.
