What is Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO)?
HOSPO is a commercial spaceport opened to the private sector that began full-scale operation in Taiki Town in April 2021. Taiki Town has geographical advantages such as the sea spreading to the east and south where rockets are launched, and the vast land that makes the rocket launch site highly expandable, making it an ideal location for a world-class spaceport. We have been working to attract the aerospace industry for about 40 years.
In order to realize the vision of “creating a space version of Silicon Valley in Hokkaido,” we will develop a launch site and testing site for rockets and spaceplanes, and contribute to the development of rockets and the space industry as infrastructure that supports the world’s space business. Masu. We also aim to revitalize the region and create business centered around the space industry. We are currently working on a new satellite rocket launch site, LC-1, and an extension of the runway, and part of the construction funds are being funded through the corporate hometown tax payment system. Taiki Town received the Cabinet Office Special Mission Award for the Corporate Hometown Tax System in 2022, in recognition of its efforts to halt population decline through regional revitalization efforts that take advantage of regional characteristics.
