1. Maile is a Hawaiian plant that is said to be the “sacred leaf in which the gods dwell,” and it has the meanings of “peace,” “union,” and “bonds.” Therefore, “Maile House” is called “House of Matchmaking.” Contains thoughts

・Establishment of a “dementia cafe (Maile Cafe)” that provides opportunities for exercise, massage, chatting, etc. through the Itoshima City Dementia Cafe Project Grant Grant Project
・“Lifestyle Health Room” where local residents can stop by and think together about health, nursing care, and other daily concerns. ・“Everyone’s Study Group” to learn about home hospice and home medical care, etc.
■Thoughts on establishment:
“Maile House” was established with the intention of valuing the relationships we have and providing care that is in tune with everyone’s wishes as a neighbor, just as the word “Maile” means. We aim to create a community where everyone, from babies to the elderly, respects each other and does what they can to support each other, even if they have an illness, dementia, or disability.
“Maile House” is the fifth facility for the elderly established under the “MetLife Foundation x Nippon Foundation Enriching Place for the Elderly and Children Program”*1. This program contributes to the creation of a prosperous local community through the establishment of elderly care facilities for the elderly to help them live a fulfilling life in the final stages of their lives*2 and “Children’s Third Place,” a facility for children in difficult situations. Thing. In addition, MetLife employees will contribute to the creation of rich local communities through volunteer activities at facilities for the elderly and children nationwide operated by the Nippon Foundation. By tackling the challenges of a super-aging society and children, we aim to build a sustainable society that leaves no one behind.
*1 Started in September 2021 with a donation of approximately 400 million yen from the MetLife Foundation to the Nippon Foundation. The first geriatric hospice under this program opened in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture in December 2022, and the fourth hospice has opened so far, with a total of 12 facilities for the elderly and children. We are planning to open several locations.
*2 According to the “National Awareness Survey on How to Approach the End of Life” conducted by the Nippon Foundation in November 2020, about 80% of people in Japan die in a hospital, while about 60% want to approach the end of their lives. The results show that people prefer their home as a place.

In an accelerating super-aging society, the role played by hospices for the elderly like Maile’s House is extremely important, and companies are also being asked how they can be involved in meeting such needs. As a life insurance company, we not only promise peace of mind and trust to our customers, but we also want to continue to create and provide value over the long term while working closely with the local community.
Hideo Fukuda, Director of Public Utilities Department, Nippon Foundation We are very pleased to be able to open a new “Maile no Ie” in Fukuoka in collaboration with MetLife and the MetLife Foundation. Congratulations on the opening ceremony of the MetLife Foundation Support Home Hospice Maile House. We would also like to thank the MetLife Foundation and the Nippon Foundation for their support. A home where you can live with a smile until your final moments was built in Arita Chuo by Mr. Haraguchi and Chairman of the NPO Maile Fukagawa. We hope that the circle of smiles will continue to spread at Maile’s home in the future.
NPO Maire Chairman Mika Fukagawa
When I first heard about home hospice, my heart trembled, thinking, “This is it!” I want my loved ones to spend their final moments in a warm place like this. It has been 10 years since this feeling grew and I continued running with the encouragement of my friends. Finally, we were able to open “Maile’s House”. This is a new start, and we want to make it a “house of matchmaking” where residents can spend a peaceful and enjoyable time, and where locals can feel free to stop by.
