Fujitsu Limited Starts providing mainframe modernization automation service “Fujitsu PROGRESSION” in Japan

Fujitsu Limited
Mainframe modernization automation service “Fujitsu PROGRESSION” launched in Japan
Powerfully promote modernization by leveraging multi-cloud compatible services with a rich track record overseas
……
Fujitsu is adapting the modernization automation service “Fujitsu PROGRESSION”, which has a track record of migrating legacy systems built on mainframes of more than 50 companies in the global market, to Fujitsu’s mainframe “GS21 series”, which will be implemented in 2024. We started providing it in Japan from May 7th.
This service automatically converts (rewrites) applications built on mainframes from COBOL to Java or C# while maintaining their
functionality. In addition, we support multi-cloud environments and on-premises environments built with open systems as destinations for modernization from mainframes, accelerating the modernization of legacy systems by increasing customers’ options for migration destinations.
With this service, we will strengthen our modernization business, which carries out end-to-end operations from assessment to planning, program conversion, and testing, and help our customers transform to data-driven management and realize digital transformation (DX). Contribute.
[Features of modernization services centered on “Fujitsu PROGRESSION”] “Fujitsu PROGRESSION” is a service that automatically converts (rewrites) COBOL language into Java or C#. For over 20 years, Fujitsu North America, inc (FNAI) has been providing mainframe modernization services to over 50 customers. This time, in preparation for expansion into the Japanese market, we conducted Japanese language support and operational verification on our mainframe “GS21 series”.
1. Fujitsu PROGRESSION allows you to choose from a wide range of migration platforms from mainframes.Fujitsu PROGRESSION can support multi-cloud environments and on-premises environments built with open systems as migration platforms. Additionally, since you can choose Microsoft Windows or Linux as the destination OS, you can achieve flexible modernization without being subject to major restrictions on middleware configuration.
2. A system for providing efficient and high-quality modernization services We have transferred FNAI’s know-how and skills to the Modernization Knowledge Center, a CoE organization that aggregates the knowledge and know-how we have cultivated through modernization of various industries and operations. In addition, we will recruit and aggregate “Modernai Meisters”, who are specialized engineers familiar with legacy technologies, from within and outside the company, establishing a system of 500 people by 2026 and promoting proposal, optimization, and delivery of customer modernization projects. To do. Furthermore, in collaboration with Fujitsu’s Global Delivery Center (GDC) and Fujitsu’s partner system integrators and engineering companies, we have pre-registered specialized engineers who are familiar with legacy technologies to quickly respond to customer projects. In June 2024, we will establish a new program called “Fujitsu Moderni Engineer Bank,” which will provide strong support for customer projects with a staff of 2,000 people.
3. We provide high-quality end-to-end services from assessment to program conversion and testing. Using our unique assessment method, which investigates and analyzes the current system, we determine the assets to be migrated, and then determine the cost and schedule. We will create a grand design that includes: After automatically analyzing the COBOL source code and generating business logic according to the characteristics of the mainframe model, we
automatically convert it into a highly maintainable program that matches the optimal technical structure of the target language. In addition to these automatic conversion processes, our engineers will be responsible for designing and constructing the migration
destination infrastructure, and testing the test data and scenarios after automatic conversion, thereby achieving reliable, high-quality modernization.
【About the future】
In the future, by utilizing generation AI for system migration, we will automatically generate test data and test codes to further improve the efficiency of the test process and shorten the migration period. PROGRESSION” will also be gradually applied. In addition, we strive not only to develop our own products but also apply excellent services from around the world, providing a variety of options and strongly promoting the modernization of our customers. We promote aggressive modernization, which is the foundation of our customers’ transformation to data-driven management, as “Road to 3X,” and work with our customers on digital transformation (DX), sustainable transformation (SX), and green transformation (GX). ) and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
