The Kansai branch office of Open House Development Co., Ltd., a group company of Open House Group Co., Ltd. (Headquarters Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President Masaaki Arai, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”), opened a store at Carp Streamer Festa 1000 and displayed the edge of the flooring. We held an SDGs event “Wooden Carp Streamer Workshop” using wood.

Carp streamers with names on them swim along the Akutagawa River. In our desire to support the cultural inheritance of the child-rearing generation and local residents, we sponsored a booth where children could make “carp streamer keychains” to enjoy learning about the SDGs. These keychains were made by upcycling scrap materials from our company’s construction of houses. Participants learned how to use waste materials while adding colors and designs to express the scent of wood and the texture of the materials. I enjoyed it. In the participant survey, we received comments such as “It’s interesting that scrap wood from houses was used” and “The children seemed very happy to be able to write their names and pictures. It was a good event.” I was able to interact with many families at the intimate event.

Carp Streamer Festa 1000 is a project created with citizen
participation that has been held since 1992. We are holding this event with the hope that the children who will be responsible for the future of this city will grow up freely and have an opportunity to love their hometown. As we did this time, we hope to work together with local businesses and local volunteers to make the event even better and one that will remain in the children’s memories.
