*Comment from session panelist Erika Iwai*
SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government I was honored to be invited as a panelist for the Global Startup Program’s session “What would the world be like if half of the entrepreneurs were women?”
Diversity initiatives have been accelerating in Japan in recent years, with women being appointed to top and senior management positions at major companies. On the other hand, structural problems persist, such as unconscious bias against women and minorities, organizational structures and work styles built on male standards, and closed networks. Not only am I a female entrepreneur, but I have also lived overseas for a long time, so I have often felt the barriers that are unique to Japan.
A society where everyone can play an active role regardless of gender, work style, job title, etc. should be a good place for everyone. As someone who aims to realize such a future, I am looking forward to discussions with the other speakers.

Among the challenges within the startup ecosystem, there are many challenges faced by female entrepreneurs in particular, and Ms. Iwai’s opinion as a female entrepreneur is exactly the same as everyone at OdinS about “a world where half of entrepreneurs are women.” This selection was made after discussions within the organizing secretariat that it would be possible to expand our thinking. Program” is a global innovation conference aimed at solving common urban issues around the world, and we invite people involved in the startup ecosystem from Japan and abroad to participate and envision the future together.
