To celebrate the birth of Saint Shinran, we will hold a tea ceremony (May 20th and 21st) and a celebratory Noh performance (May 21st). ……
A tea ceremony will be held at the National Treasure Hiunkaku on May 20th, 2024 (Monday) – 12:30-16:00 – May 21st (Tuesday) – 9:30-15:30. In addition, a celebratory Noh performance will be held on the Minami Noh Stage, an important cultural property, from 12:30 to 16:00 on the 21st (Tuesday).
Shinran, the founder of Jodo Shinshu, was born in Hino, Kyoto on May 21, 1173, and last year, 2023, marked the 850th anniversary of his birth. I welcomed you. Every year on May 20th and 21st, Nishi Honganji holds a memorial service called the “Sect Founder’s Birthday,” as well as other colorful events such as tea ceremonies and celebratory Noh performances.

The Noh performance will be performed by the Kyoto Kanze Society, and will be led by the Katayama family, who are the Kansai Shoshi of the Kanze School.
The venue, the Minami Noh Stage, an important cultural property, is the largest outdoor Noh stage in Japan. Please come and enjoy the elegant moment created by the historic building and Noh.
