[What is the Sanriku International Art Festival? ]
The Sanriku coastal region, which was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, is a treasure trove of performing arts unlike any other in the world.
The Sanriku International Art Festival, which started in 2014, is set in the Sanriku coastal region (approximately 5,700 square kilometers) from Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture to Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, and has taken root in each region through generations of tradition and continues to be passed down to this day. The festival has been held as an art festival that brings together domestic and international artists and the vast nature of Sanriku, with a focus on disseminating the appeal of the performing arts of Japan. In 2018, we launched the Sanriku International Arts Promotion Committee, which is made up of 15 municipalities in Sanriku, Sanriku Railway Co., Ltd., and private organizations specializing in culture and the arts, to further deepen collaboration with the region and create a
community-based community. We are aiming for an art festival. By holding the event in the form of an international art festival, we are providing an opportunity for Sanriku’s performing arts to connect with the world, and through exchanges with diverse cultures, we are working towards creative recovery through culture and the arts after the earthquake disaster.
