General sports magazine “Sports Graphic Number” collaborates with “Uma Musume” again on a double cover!
Sports Graphic Number is a comprehensive sports magazine from Bungeishunju Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Nariyuki Iikubo).
Issue 1096, which will be released on May 16th (based on the metropolitan area), will collaborate with the cross-media content “Uma Musume Pretty Derby” (hereinafter referred to as “Uma Musume”).

“Sports Graphic Number” No. 1096

This horse racing feature is titled “Bonds of the Derby.” It takes a closer look at the stories of the people and horses surrounding the Japan Derby, which will be held on May 26th. In addition to a series of interviews with teams aiming for the top of their generation, including this year’s Satsuki Sho horse Justin Milano, who graces the cover, we also feature unknown stories of past Derby horses such as Fusaichi Concord in 1996 and Eisin Flash in 2010. Masu.
Additionally, we have an interview with jockey Yutaka Take, who came back from injury to win last year’s Arima Kinen race, and a report on the strongest horse, Equinox, who retired and became a stud.

In addition, this issue will be the second collaboration with “Uma Musume” since issue 1061 (released on October 20, 2022). The back cover (Table 4) is the movie version of Uma Musume, which is scheduled to be released on May 24th.

A newly drawn illustration of Uma Musume’s Jungle Pocket and Dantz Frame that appear in “Door to a New Era”. In addition, a total of 16 pages from the back cover will feature a Uma Musume feature on the theme of derby. In addition to “non-fiction” articles on Aisin Flash and King Halo, there is plenty of content, including a “classic three-strong roundtable discussion” of TM Opera O, Admire Vega, and Narita Top Road, and a “Comprehensive list of GI direct
confrontations” based on historical facts.

■Comment from Tsuyoshi Nakamura, editor-in-chief of “Sports Graphic Number” This is the second collaboration with “Uma Musume” since issue 1061, which was released on October 20, 2022. The first edition received a great response and was reprinted (3 times) with a total of 140,000 copies published. I think this is because not only Uma Musume fans but also traditional horse racing fans were interested. This is because “Uma Musume” has the aspect of answering “if” questions such as “If this horse had won that race…”.
This special feature on Uma Musume is full of interesting articles, such as a roundtable discussion of the 1999 classic “three strong” and a project related to the “if” of the derby. In particular, the “non-fiction” about the derby between Aisin Flash and King Halo was written by the editorial department’s horse racing staff T-desk himself, and is very well written.
I hope you will pick it up and enjoy it.
