○ East Japan Railway Company (Representative Director and President: Yoichi Kiyoshi, hereinafter referred to as “JR East”) and JR East Startup Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Yutaka Shibata) are collaborating with venture companies and people with excellent business ideas. We are promoting business creation activities called the JR East Startup Program.
○ Now in its seventh year, we will be recruiting candidates twice a year, in spring and fall, to further promote open innovation. We are collaborating with venture companies with an eye on the future under the three themes of “regional co-creation,” “digital co-creation,” and “global co-creation (SDGs).”
○ In the fall recruitment, we solicited participants starting in October 2023, and 8 proposals were selected out of a total of 116 proposals.
○ A DEMO DAY (presentation session) will be held to present the selected proposals and collaboration content, and the overall Grand Prix “Startup Award” and “Excellence Award” will be decided for the outstanding proposals. Selected companies will collaborate with the JR East Group and conduct test marketing sequentially within the program period of approximately one year from application.
1. About selected companies for fall 2023
In the autumn recruitment, participants were invited to participate starting in October 2023, and 8 proposals were selected out of a total of 116 proposals. We aim to conduct test marketing during the program period targeting companies that have been in business for less than 10 years and have their own products, services, or prototypes. In addition, we will consider adopting business ideas from the JR East Group and materializing the business with support from the JR East Group for venture companies that have just started.

What is “JR East Startup Program”?

This is a program that solicits proposals for business services that utilize the management resources and information assets of stations, railways, and group businesses from venture companies and people with various ideas, and then refines them before realizing them. It was first held in 2017, and a total of 128 proposals have been adopted so far, including this one. We received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the 1st Japan Open Innovation Awards in 2018 sponsored by the Cabinet Office, and the Minister of the Environment Award at the 3rd Japan Open Innovation Awards in 2020.
2. About DEMO DAY
