What is preparation for a huge earthquake? [Attitude survey of 300 people] More than 90% said they felt anxious about frequent
earthquakes, while more than half said they were not fully prepared… Because Japan is an earthquake-prone country, what can we do now? thing.
……
“Office Gift (URL: https://www.officegift.jp/)” operated by Web Gift Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Hitoshi Tomita) is a survey on earthquake disaster prevention awareness and preparation. We conducted a survey.
[Table 3: https://prtimes.jp/data/corp/51606/table/39_1_a57b655f94408f810f45c3a6c40faac7.jpg] In recent years, large-scale earthquakes have occurred frequently in Japan. With large earthquakes expected to occur across a wide area in the future, many people may be worried that this is not someone else’s problem. Therefore, Office Gift (https://www.officegift.jp/) conducted a survey of 300 men and women from ages 10 to over 70 regarding disaster prevention awareness and preparedness. Please take a look and think about what we can do to prepare for the next huge earthquake. Even if they feel “anxious” about frequent earthquakes, more than half of them say they are “not fully prepared”!
Japan has always been a country prone to earthquakes, but recently large earthquakes have been occurring frequently across the country. Therefore, we asked everyone about their awareness and countermeasures against earthquakes. ★More than 90% of respondents said they “feel anxious” or “somewhat anxious” about frequent earthquakes.

(N=300 people, n=300, single answer, based on an internet survey conducted from April 10, 2024 to April 12, 2024) 92.4% of the respondents answered, “I feel that way.” Large earthquakes have been occurring frequently across the country in recent years, with concerns about the Nankai Trough earthquake, which is predicted to cause particularly great damage. Therefore, many people think that it is no surprise that a large earthquake could occur anytime and anywhere. ★Disaster prevention awareness increases due to frequent earthquakes

(N=300 people, n=300, single answer. Based on an internet survey conducted from April 10, 2024 to April 12, 2024) Following the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, On April 17th, an earthquake with a seismic intensity of lower 6 occurred in Ehime and Kochi prefectures. In a survey, more than 60% of people answered that their awareness of disaster prevention had increased due to frequent earthquakes. When combined with “No change (I was originally aware of disaster prevention),” the percentage exceeds 90%, indicating that awareness of disaster prevention is increasing. The damage situation is reported on TV and social media every day, and more and more people are starting to realize that the earthquake is not someone else’s problem. ★On the other hand…More than half of the respondents said they were “not very well prepared” or “not fully prepared” for earthquakes!

(N=300 people, n=300, single answer, based on an internet survey conducted from April 10, 2024 to April 12, 2024) When asked, “Are you fully prepared for an earthquake?” More than half of the respondents, 53.6%, answered “Not very well” or “Not completely”. Although more than 90% of respondents answered that they “feel anxious about frequent earthquakes” and “are becoming more aware of disaster prevention,” this is a far cry from the percentage of people who say they are fully prepared for earthquakes. It seems that the level of anxiety about earthquakes does not necessarily match the actual state of preparation.
☆Why are you not fully prepared even if you feel anxious?
When asked, “Are you fully prepared for an earthquake?”, there are three main reasons why people answered “Not very well prepared” or “Not fully prepared.”
☆Preparation is not 100%, even preparation is not enough
“I think I’m prepared, but the more I prepare, the more I feel like I don’t have enough.” (Male, 30s, Aichi Prefecture) I don’t think it’s enough.” (Female in her 50s, Aichi Prefecture) “I haven’t looked inside for the past year because it’s a pain to replace the
contents.” (Female in her 50s, Hokkaido)
