“One Book Sharing”, a four-way good service started by a local bookstore ~Next event will be held on May 21st (Tuesday)~
A new form of reading revealed by 100 people who experienced it ……
CHIENOWA BASE (2-7-27 Honmachi, Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture) opened a new store half a year ago, going against the era of bookstores disappearing in towns. We are not just a store that sells books, but a store that offers a new reading experience. So what is this “new experience”?
The situation surrounding bookstores is becoming increasingly difficult. The number of bookstores has been decreasing since the late 2000s due to various factors such as the spread of e-books and online bookstores, the spread of digital content, structural changes in the publishing industry, and changes in the local economy. Although bookstores were originally private businesses, they were said to be businesses that brought “sampo yoshi” as a base for local culture and learning. However, the balance of “sampo yoshi” that surrounds bookstores has now collapsed and is on the verge of collapse. However, at CHIENOWA BASE, we are confident that we will go beyond
“three-sided yoshi” and offer a “four-sided yoshi” experience that will help you solve your problems and ultimately help preserve bookstore culture.

Here’s what we heard in the participant survey of the book club-style workshop “One Book Sharing” (https://booktoaction.biz/service) that we are conducting. “This place has three wonderful values: the value that can be gained from books, the value that can be gained from dialogue with participants, and the value that can be gained from interacting with people who work in the area, regardless of work.” We have received comments from book authors such as, “I’m very happy that you chose this book from among so many books,” and “What a bookstore does is of great significance, and I will support you.” [The Four Ways of CHIENOWA] Bookstores that sell books: A new way to sell books Buyers: A place where you can encounter new books, read, and learn and interact A community: By connecting people working in the area Writers (authors) who lead to regional revitalization: We are no longer living in an era where books can be sold just by writing and publishing, but book club participants always buy and read books. This is a clue to solving the problems of these four people. One example is “One Book Sharing,” which we conduct together with people working at local companies. Since its opening, it has been held regularly every month at CHIENOWA BASE. What is the book club type workshop “One Book Sharing”? Participants share one book.

This is Isshindo’s unique workshop program where you can experience books, learn new things, and discover new things by reading → summarizing → sharing → talking → working. Through this endeavor, we have received positive feedback from participants and authors alike. I believe that a “town bookstore” should be a base for building a network through the “seeds of wisdom” called “books.” We have named the services we provide, including the aforementioned “One Book Sharing,” “BOOK to ACTION,” and are working to once again spread the value of books. What is that “BOOK to ACTION”? In essence, it is “an attempt to use the power of books to support the happiness of companies and the happiness of the people who work there.” The three pillars are

One Book Sharing (book club type workshop)
A workshop program where participants read a book → share → dialogue → work. The instructor is the book itself.
Open Meeting (training with the author invited)
A program that combines readings, lectures, and training by inviting authors and editors.
Office Library (corporate library)
By creating a library within a company, we create daily learning and interaction. The “new initiative for local bookstores” that started in Asaka has already begun to spread to some major companies.

・Creating an environment that makes people want to do what they want to do creates a sense of ownership ・Why do I do this job? There are many situations like this, but if you can communicate well with your boss, get to know them, and build a relationship of trust, you will feel the meaning of your existence as having been entrusted by a boss you trust.・Getting to know the other person on a one-on-one basis. That’s important. It is also important to communicate the career plan that suits each individual.

・I was relieved to know that other people at the company had the same problem of not being able to delegate things to others and making it difficult for them. I heard that the size of the company doesn’t matter, so I would like to refer to the contents of the book.I discussed the same topic with people from other companies, and found out that they have similar ways of thinking and have similar concerns. I want to take advantage of what I learned today and carry out what I am entrusted to, and I received many helpful comments about the work on my own tips for delegating tasks. I’m glad you had more time to talk.

・This was my first time using a book for training. There were various opinions in the group, and I decided to continue the good points and be conscious of the bad points and improve them in my future work.・I thought it would take quite a while to take 2 hours, but when I took it, it went by quickly. Since it was already over, I was able to concentrate on the exam.I haven’t had many group discussions with people from other companies since I became an adult, so it was a great opportunity to hear a variety of opinions.

・The value you get from books (first value), the value of expanding your impressions by having discussions with people in the same group, listening to and watching summaries from other groups (second value), and being in the same space. I felt that the added value of being able to spread and make connections with local people was wonderful (the third value). I hadn’t read a book in a long time, so I enjoyed it. Also, by writing while reading, I was able to organize myself, and I decided to try doing that again in the future.I read the book again and realized how difficult it is to output. I also thought it was important for everyone to learn how to build good relationships, as it is difficult to build good relationships if you are the only one trying to build them.

・Meet, discuss, and present with various people. You can’t do it as an adult. That’s why I would like to thank you for your valuable time. I learned many different opinions through the discussion. I was able to think deeply about the importance of communication and the meaning of Horenso in the first place. It was very helpful to read everyone’s summaries and be able to easily understand what the book was trying to say. I think it will come to mind when you reread it yourself. By delivering the value of books in a new way, we hope to energize not only Asaka, but Saitama and all of Japan. If you come to CHIENOWA BASE (2-7-27 Honmachi, Asaka City) on the next event, May 21st (Tuesday) at 2:00 p.m., you will be able to see “One Book Sharing” in action. Please contact us in advance if this is the case). This time’s theme is “Think about time and increase the value of time.” Target: People who are busy and don’t have enough time, People who can’t spend time satisfactorily, People who want to live a happy life, People who don’t want to have regrets.

Don’t read alone, read together. Sharing your findings will lead to action. The value comes from being in a real place, not online. These are very tough times for bookstores in town, but we would be happy if you could take a look at the “new form of bookstore survival” being held at a facility with a new concept that “goes beyond the boundaries of a bookstore.” is.

[CHIENOWA BASE] Isshindo is a bookstore in Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture that started selling books from carts in 1947. In October 2023, we will open the multi-purpose bookstore “CHIENOWA BASE” with the aim of becoming another place for the local community.
