Space Seed Holdings has registered its intention to participate in the XPRIZE Healthspan competition, which aims to extend healthy life expectancy.
*
Space Seed Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kengo Suzuki; hereinafter referred to as “Space Seed Holdings”) is a global company dedicated to discovering and promoting innovative solutions to extend healthy lifespans. competition, XPRIZE
I have registered my intention to participate in the Healthspan competition. * XPRIZE
Healthspan aims to discover and advance innovative approaches to increasing the number of years of healthy life. Participants will be asked to use science and technology to develop ways to help people live longer, healthier lives. Space Seed Holdings is conducting XPRIZE research in the fields of space and medicine.
At Healthspan, we plan to promote research related to technology that can specifically address social issues related to aging.

Possibilities of space x aging research
In the space environment, the aging process occurs more rapidly than on Earth. Astronauts experience phenomena such as abnormal bone loss and muscle atrophy, which are similar to the aging process on Earth. In particular, muscles are said to weaken twice as fast as those who are bedridden, and bones weaken 10 times faster than those with osteoporosis. In addition, astronauts are exposed to cosmic radiation in a single day equivalent to the amount of natural radiation on Earth for about half a year, and the long stay in a cramped spacecraft is thought to have an impact on their mental and psychological health. These conditions can act as stressors in space and accelerate the aging process. Furthermore, the accumulation of active oxygen disorders is said to be a contributing factor to aging.

On the other hand, it is hoped that the analysis of research results resulting from accelerated aging in space will deepen our
understanding of the aging process on Earth. Scientifically
elucidating the abnormal aging rate observed in space may enable the development of new treatments and preventive measures for health problems caused by aging on Earth. This research aims to improve longevity by investigating many aspects related to aging, including managing damage caused by reactive oxygen species, effective interventions to reduce bone density and muscle weakness, and even enhancing DNA repair. It is thought that there is a possibility of obtaining knowledge to realize a healthy life.

At Space Seed Holdings, in the fields of space and medicine, we are FOODSPHERE” program to promote the development of medical-related technologies in space and on Earth*1. Continue to XPRIZE
Through Healthspan’s participation, we aim to implement concrete solutions into the world by analyzing exosomes, developing related healthcare products, and developing technologies in the medical field. *1 Released on May 2, 2024
