Nagaoka is celebrating its 84th year in business as an audio equipment manufacturer, mainly manufacturing and selling audio accessories such as record needles.
We boast the world’s top share in the production of bonded diamond chips used in record needles.
Our representative record cartridge product, the “Nagaoka MP Series (Moving Permalloy),” is a general MM type (Moving Permalloy). By attaching a light piece of iron (permalloy) to the cantilever to reduce weight, the record stylus has a higher degree of freedom of movement than the MM type, achieving delicate and high playback ability.
This MP type cartridge has a wide lineup, from high-end models to entry-level models for customers who want to enjoy it easily.
In June, we will be releasing the world’s first MP-type monaural cartridge “MP-MONO” and “1mil replacement needle for MP-MONO” as a new lineup of the “MP series”.

In recent years, the appeal of monaural music has been reevaluated, and past masterpieces are being reprinted one after another. In order to maximize the power of the sound and the sonic expression of the monaural disc, we recommend listening with a cartridge designed for monaural playback.
Many of the monaural cartridges currently on the market use stylus tips with a needle tip size of 0.6 to 0.7 mil, which is compatible with modern record cutting.
“MP-MONO” is equipped with a 0.7mil stylus tip as standard, and was developed with the aim of bringing out the contours and realism of the sound of monaural records, and achieving high-resolution monaural playback.
On the other hand, the 1mil replacement needle becomes a stylus tip that can reproduce powerful sounds with thick mid-bass.
When monaural records were the norm (mid-1940s to mid-1950s), records were played using a 1mil stylus tip.
As a manufacturer capable of integrated production of joining needles, Nagaoka is particular about the sound field and atmosphere of the time, and will simultaneously release a 1mil stylus tip to provide a more original monaural experience.
