[About Meiji Kinenkan]
[Image 4: https://prtimes.jp/i/40685/48/resize/d40685-48-5061d8d1619f9fff7759-0.jpg&s3=40685-48-501556fd5c1b869c397186167247a987-3036×1012.jpg] The main building of the Meiji Kinen Hall was completed in 1881 as the “Akasaka Temporary Imperial Palace Dining Hall (Japan’s first state guest house)”. In 1888, it served as the venue for the Imperial Conference to deliberate on the draft of the “Constitution of the Empire of Japan,” and Emperor Meiji never missed a visit. Our venue, “kinkei,” is still called the “Constitution Memorial Hall” because of the history of the establishment of the Constitution.
After being relocated twice, the opening ceremony was held in 1947 as a general wedding hall under the name “Meiji Kinenkan”, and since then more than 210,000 couples have celebrated their new beginnings. In 2020, its historical and architectural value was recognized, and the main building was designated as a tangible cultural property (building) by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The dining hall (Okai Shokudō), which was the stage for Emperor Meiji’s court diplomacy, is mainly used as a cafe in the lounge “kinkei” on weekdays.
The open space facing the garden and the historic interior, including a coffered ceiling that retains the vestiges of the Meiji era, provide a high-quality time with a Japanese spirit and a Western spirit. In addition, the hotel offers a variety of “places” where you can enjoy Meiji Kinen Museum’s original cakes, Japanese and Western sweets, and siphon-brewed coffee, allowing you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a calm space and time.
